Advantages: No Advantages
Disadvantages: Bad Service, Money Grabbers, Break promises
I am currently a Home Highway User.. The BT ISDN Box is fitted into the Attic Room connected to the main Phone socket, 2 floors below me, via a cable on the outside of the building.. I decided to have it all changed to Broadband and the conversion was to be carried out today.. 6th May. Sure enough.. the engineer called this morning telling me he was about to disconnect my line at the exchange and would then come to my house to do the conversion.. Within the hour he arrived.. I explained the way it had been wired up..He said,he was only there to change the main socket and how I got the cable from there to the attic was up to me.. I told him I wasn't accepting that and cancelled the job.. He told me it was a Self Installation..As far as I know, that means, the customer installs the modem and connects up the PC. I didn't think that included wiring the house for a telephone line. Now BT say they , as a Goodwill Gesture, they will come on the 14th a do the conversion plus install an extension to the Attic.. As there was originally an extension to the attic which had been removed by the Home Highway Installer.. BT are NOT doing me any favours.. If this engineer had his way.. I would have been left with less than I originally had.. This is all typical of a Communications Company who are obviously unable to Communicate.. They were quick to remove the cost of the Broadband Equipment from my Bank Account

- 08/05/03 The "Cutting Off " was good.. While using the Phone.. I was cut off repeatedly for short periods.. I phoned BT Faults.. they checked and said.. they could NOT understand it as there was no fault on the line and no work was being carried out in the area.. just then.. I got cut off again.. They phoned me back and said there must be something wrong with my phone..
I got into my car and drove round the block and sitting there were 2 BT vans.. and the engineers were working on the Telephone Line.. MY TELEPHONE LINE and that is how I was getting cut off.. They said that BT should have notified me that work was to be carried out on the line..So here we have a Communications Company that don't Communicate |

- 08/05/03 It was not my intention to post the same review twice.. After posting it in the other section,I realized it was would have been better in the General Section.. My apologies for any misinterpretations..
Second... BT were made aware of this fact.. plus.. they had already installed Home Highway..and,as I mentioned, stripped out the original wiring.
Third..This is not the first experience I have had with BT.. I have previously been disconnected by them during calls when they decided to carry out work outside. This was not accidental.. One of the times it happened,I was on the phone to BT regarding it. Fourth.. after a spell away from them, during which I was with Atlantic. It took me 4 months of promises before I was reconnected to BT.. The time taken was not the problem.. The unkept promises was the problem..
Fifth.. When I ordered Broadband I was told the cost of the equipment would be added on to my next Phone Bill.. I had just paid a Phone Bill the previous week.. but.. the following week.. the cost of the equipment was taken from my Bank Account.. Equipment that I can NOT use so far...
I am also unfortunate to be in an area where I can travel less than 100 yards in any direction to find that NTL are providing a Service.. This one small area has to endure the Monopoly of BT |

- 07/05/03 Not a fair review based on one experience, hence my rating.
I trust you told BT when you ordered that you were two or more floors up, there are limits to a fixed price service. |
