Advantages: Great tech support

Disadvantages: Expensive

I have had BT Broadband for almost a year now and I have had no problems. The speed they offer is up to 8mb but I often only get half of that, but that isn't the fault of BT Broadband. It's the telephone lines on this exchange. Apparently half the lines in this city go through the old exchange and get slower broadband. I know this is true because I have been amazed at the difference in speed on computers in the 'other half' of the city.

Apart from that I cannot fault them on service. They don't keep you waiting for ages on the phone and their technical help department does not work to a formula, using a fix it bty number plan like many tech support lines. They don't take you through the same questions time and again.

When you call BT support on a free phone number, you are asked to connect an Ethernet cable which comes with the hub, between your computer and the hub. This gives remote access for the tech department. You get all the security boxes to check and you can watch the cursor and see exactly where the technician is looking on your machine. After it is fixed you close the remote access programme and your machine is secure. It's fast and efficient and certainly hassle free.

I was amazed to read a review on here that said that support operated in this way. I have no idea why they would think that. That is perhaps how the old BT Dial Up service worked with regard to tech support.

BT broadband is expensive. I could get a better deal with Sky or one of the others. I currently pay £15.99 but I have already been offered a cheaper deal if I sign for another twelve months. I am waiting to see what else they offer before deciding. They are not the cheapest but I think they are worth it for the tech support alone. I need broadband for my work and can lose money pretty fast if it's down.

They have always had it up and running quickly when there has been a problem (which isn't often.)

Summary: Great service but price needs adjusting to keep it compeitive

I need a reliable service for work so it's worth it for me. They tried to offer me £4 to sign for another year but maybe if I wait it will get better!
