Advantages: It has web mail
Disadvantages: bad connection problems
Because I have been using the Internet a lot over the last year and my phone bill was increasing, I thought I would sign up with BT Internet. £9.99 deal.(Bad mistake!) I first went to their website and downloaded the relevant software, and that is where my troubles started. The most common problems I had were: not being able to connect straight away and when I did finally get connected I would lose connection from appx 3 minutes to 30 minutes, along with the occasional error codes. So I phoned the BT customer service line for their advice (at 50p a minute) Their answer to my problem was that the software I downloaded was most likely because it had not downloaded properly and I should delete it from my system and they will send me a disc through the post. Eight days later I received my disc and I still had the same problems after loading the new disc. After numerous phone calls I finally gave up. The most concerning thing about all this was the inconsistent reasons for my problems (You need a more up to date modem sir, your extension line is causing a weak link, in busy times when a lot of people are using the net, this can cause loss of data, you need to reload your software sir. Etc) My advice is if you are think of signing up with BT try and find out to see if their service has improved and then give it a try, but don’t delete your old isp connection, just in case. Thankfully I kept my old isp connection of which I have had no problems. But the whole point in signing up with BT internet was to save money on my phone bill, but instead spent a lot of money phoning their customer service help line. No wonder they say ‘Its good to talk’

- 01/11/00 Ha! My advice for anyone thinking of signing up with BT is 'don't'! They are the worst ISP I've ever had the misfortune to be with. That was 3 years ago and they have remained the worst, if the newsgroups are anything to go by |
