Advantages: ER... Now I know not to use BT's isp again
Disadvantages: Connection speed, Ability to connect, Price
I have been on 3 ISP's to date. Tesco.net Screaming.net (aka. World online - aka. Tiscali) And BTopenworld dial up Tesco were a very reliable service provider but were too expensive so we swapped to Screaming.net. They were the most reliable service provider out there I belive. But with all good things they dropped their telephone account handling section. So we moved again to BT. I hated BT before the move (cause they haven't cabled or ADSL'ed anywhere near my village). After the move my hate for BT has grown. The main thing that gets me is the disconnections that occur during surfing. Normally while in the middle of something important, like checking account balances. But before the disconections there's the frequent impossibility to actually get a connection to the net. On one occasion I could not dial out for 6 days and BT's response was that it was my own fault. Another week they went through a faze of disconnecting people at exactly 8.30pm for over 20 minutes. If work has to be done on lines or upgrading of systems why not write to the consumer to warn them! Recently we queried the telephone bill for the internet line only to find that along with £6.99 (up from £4 last year) they charge for being a BT nternet customer, they charge for the line and also they charge for a little white box on the wall which we were not asked if we wanted... (The box also has no purpose and carries out nothing...) Total per month for off peak internet - £22+ For that price we get limited bandwidth, very varing speeds (14,400 bps to 46,666 bps, but it only works if connected at 45,333 bps. The rest just cause errors and crash) Luckily the contract period of 1 year has just gone and I have a replacement ISP to change to soon hopefully. A note to BT - If you're in the Red by Billions, surely good customer service would help gain respec
t and popularity?

- 07/08/02 I think it probably does depend where you are. At work we have a number of home-based consultants who use BT. There are rarely any connection problems. |
