Cable & Wireless Reviews

Newest Review: ... line rental and cheaper cable television. About 3 months later, free call ISP's came out, so I quickly changed from AOL to BT Internet. This dropped my monthly phone bill of about £250 to £40. For the next 2 years I was happierly using BT Internet free call ISP until recently where they have changed it from off-peak free call to 24 hour, 7 day's a week free call. This sounds good doesn't it, but the catch is, you have to have a BT phone line! This gave me no other option but to change ISPs again. After a while of looking for ISPs and phoning them up I found no one gave free call ISP access to anyone who had a C & W, even N... more

I have now been with C & W for about 3 years now and over the 3 years I have experianced nothing but problems. When I first changed from BT to C & W, C & W were one of the most popular telephone landline providers. I was tricked into thinking that the service from C & W was going to be top quality. I was fooled by the freebies I was given. I was given a free phone line (by one get one free) with no line rental and cheaper cable television. About 3 months later, free call ISP's came out, so I quickly changed from AOL to BT Internet. This dropped my monthly phone bill of about £250 to £40. NTL/Cable have been around for a few years now, and have tried desperately hard to keep up with BT and have failed miserably! Their line rental is cheap, but so are their services. When trying to make a call between 5pm-10pm, is can be impossible and on a regular basis the line goes down so you can't recieve incoming calls. They don't have services like BT such as press 3 to ring back, three way calling or family and friends. Apart from these disadvantages the main problem i have had with cable is their slowness!! It takes them days to give you an extra service and even longer to remove it! I had a bar on my phone recently, it took them 3 ... Read the complete review

Now approaching the end of my first year with C&W digital and what a year it has been. From day one their have been problems. The signal regularily sticks, when you actually receive one and the phone has a mind of its own.If I had a quid for every time a friend had phoned thought no-one was in but the thing had not rung I would have retired by now. It's not just me all my friends who fell for the 'worlds most advanced tv with internet on your screen'speel have had the same problems.I won't go into tv internet here but suffice to say stick with your pc.Luckily I am a student and have time to phone their call centres but I fail to see how an average working man Read the complete review

Years ago, I decided I'd had enough of paying BT's high call charges and I signed up for Mercury (remember them !!). I received a little grey box with a green light on it (hence the comment in the opinion title), and some instructions together with a password which arrived in the post in 2 separate envelopes. After putting in a little square battery and activating it using the provided password, the one-eyed monster was ready to use. It really is simplicity itself and has been copied by many teleco's. You simply punch in the number you wish to dial and there is a slight delay as the little green light on the box flashes on and off ... Read the complete review

I've never had reason to knock C&W before now but my recent experience with them is enough to lead me to post my opinion . As a user on the old C&W free local calls tarrif I was shocked to get a phonebill for £115 when my usual bills are only about £10 . After checking around on some newsgroups I managed to find that other subscribers had been overcharged due to a billing problem and I wasn't alone . I rang up customer services to ask what was going on , why I had been overcharged and when I could expect to be refunded . I was told that there was an error with the billing system changing over from 0171 to 0207 numbers and as such no local calls ... Read the complete review
