Call net 0800 has closed its doors on free unmetered access. Another unmetered service has bitten the dust after financial strain. The service has lasted 9 months but now can no longer afford to provide the 0800 free call number. The plug will be pulled on the service sometime in september.

The new service is called callnet1p which offers 1p per minute access at off peak times and 2p per minute at peak times. The joining fee of £9.99 is waivered for existing customers and is exclusivly held for the existing customers for a limited time before it is offered to the rest of the country.

The service is likely to improve and the busy signals should die down but now it will be like some of the other non subscribtion ISP's. They will have to show they are good enough to pay for.

How many more to follow in the path of callnet 0800 and how busy will the lasting services get as more and more companies pull out of the 0800 business.

oh and the first 100 existing 0800 to transfer to callnet1p will get £5 credited to their account.
