If the spring of 2000 is remembered for anything, it will be the time when the internet revolution took off in the UK. Along with thousands of others I listened with growing excitement of all the promises of free internet access. I read up as much as I could on all of those that were offering unmetered free isp services. I could not ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review What 0800? (126 words)
by - written on 25/10/00 (Useful, 13 readings)

I signed up for Callnet in October 1999 and at first the unmetered access was great. Good download speeds and few connection attempts made it the best free service available. The only problem was that the cut-off time was every hour, causing problems with large downloads which are unresumable. Then they started accepting users again, making it ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review callnet0800.com: CallNet bye-bye! (88 words)

So CallNet0800 is gone - one warning to change to their new highly popular (their words!) service and there they are gone! Nice of them just to check that you had recieved the E-mail informing you that the service was no more and it would be changing to a charged service at a penny a minute. Big deal, that's what you pay with BT! I tried to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Callnet is no longer 0800 its callnet 1p (196 words)
by - written on 28/08/00 (Very useful, 57 readings)

Call net 0800 has closed its doors on free unmetered access. Another unmetered service has bitten the dust after financial strain. The service has lasted 9 months but now can no longer afford to provide the 0800 free call number. The plug will be pulled on the service sometime in september. The new service is called callnet1p which offers ...  Read the complete review

callnet0800.com: A perfect examlpe of how companies can rip of the consumer ! (156 words)

I signed up to Cellnet0800 in Febuary, and the money for the dialer was taken from my account in May, but behold I have not heard anything since.. no dialer, no letter nothing. I`ve written 5-6 letters and emails to the company, but no one can be bothered to reply to them. Also sadly I paid for this transaction by Switch, so I`ve lost the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Taken money but no dialer (195 words)
by - written on 26/08/00 (Very useful, 7 readings)

I'm unable to rate just how good CallNet0800 is because I'm still waiting for the dialer. I first applied about 8 months ago by telephone after reading about the Company in .Net magazine. After 4 months I managed to make contact by 'phone and was told by the operator that my order had just arrived on their system. (That ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review callnet0800.com: They are rip-off merchants!  (189 words)
by - written on 20/08/00 (Very useful, 10 readings)

Actually it's £19.99 you'll find missing from your bank account, if you join this sad ISP. They are indeed a shady organisation, so shady you can't find a specific contact telephone number on their website (just an e-mail address to respond to!). But general enquiries can apparently be reached at 0800 279 7292. I tried using the box to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Callnet0800 RIP (275 words)

So Callnet0800 is to be no more, being forced to change not only their business model but the name of the company to Callnet1p (or something like that), But it should really be called 'Callnet1p off peak and 2p weekdays' Catchy! I doubt even this will last very long as the company has an almost complete lack of customer sevice via ...  Read the complete review

As a "free" ISP I think this one comes out ahead of most of them at the present time. If you can stand the delay in obtaining your service then you get a very good deal. The only problems at the moment are on line help, though they are making in roads in this area and off peak access ( it can take a few tries to get online. I have tried ...  Read the complete review

Don't waste your time or raise your blood pressure trying with this one. No periodic fee, 0800 Internet access for about £20 (to buy a dialler contraption - which they say you'll get within about 2 weeks, ha ha - through which you route your modem and, to make allegedly cheaper calls generally, your phone); they claim you can get back ...  Read the complete review

I HAVE JUST RECEIVED AN EMAIL ANNOUNCING THE END OF CALLNET0800. WHERE'S MY £20 NOW, I WONDER? They now say they have been "forced" to introduce a wonderful new system at 1p per minute at all times - oh, except during the day when it is 2p per minute. The lying toads - what was the £20 for, I never use the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Plug Has Been Pulled!! (198 words)

I got Callnet 0800 access with my PC (Evesham Micros) and had no commitment to their telephone service, and was able to use the internet access without restriction or worry of spending £x on phone calls. Initially I was able to connect after a few attempts, but this was about as good as it got. Now I am lucky to connnect after about 20 minutes ...  Read the complete review

I'm one of the second generation subscribers to this service, and as such had to pay £20 for a dialler in order to obtain 30% off phone call charges. Very nice but this involves all calls going through callnet telecom, and we haven't had a bill through yet... That aside, Callnet have recognised their failure to produce a decent enough ...  Read the complete review

Well, having first heard of this ISP on the pages of The Times 'Interace' supplement, i decided that even with a fairly meagre expenditure of around £50 wirth if internet calls per quarter, it had to be worth having. This decision was based not least on my status as a poor impoverished student type! At first, the site was ...  Read the complete review

I have been on Callnet0800 since just before Christmas 1999, I was one of the lucky ones who managed to get through on the initial telephone signup - although there was some delay in activating my account. The service was absolutely brilliant at first, good speeds, no engaged tones and no call charges! Gradually the service ...  Read the complete review

I sent off for my subscription in February this year and in March I received my dialler box but it came with no explanation of what it was for after contacting their "helpline" I got all the info plus the money off vouchers (£5 off each bill). Premium Review callnet0800.com: Where's my £20? (88 words)

I Pre-registered months ago. About 6 weeks ago they took £20 from my bank account. I've never ever had any mail or email from them. I'm now struggling to get the money back from them despite several emails. The most annoying thing about it is I expected some sort of acknowledgement from them. When I didn't get one and when I discovered ...  Read the complete review

I joined Callnet0800 on the launch day - 1st November 1999, when it was completely free to join (No £19.99 charge - they are currently charging). Up until about March the service was excellent, but since then it has taken approximately 10-20 redials to become connected. Once connected you are restricted on what you can access. They have blocked ...  Read the complete review
