Premium Review First Telecom: Cheapest for Local Calls (421 words)

This service provider is now known as Breathe Telecom, at least when they answer the phone, but are part of Atlantic Telecom. I have been a satisfied customer of First Telecom, as they used to be known, since April 2000. The service is available to both BT and Cable users. To sign up is absolutely free, there is no subscription and no minimum monthly usage. Their Pay-later account is still the cheapest offering for all local w/end and evening calls and for national evening calls. Local weekend: 0.94p and local evening: 1.34p. National evening: 1.7p. They are also cheaper for calls to all mobile networks at all times. ...

First Telecom offer prepay and pay later for land lines. I use pay later and find calls cost about half of BT's standard tariff (ignoring Friends and Family etc). All you need to do is enter a 4 digit code before the number you are dialling on your BT landline, or for a few pounds you can buy a box that does it for you. It is ideal for situations where a phone line is shared between different users eg in a flat share situation as one person can have an account with FT and the other with BT. (If there are more than two users each can have accounts with other operators eg OneTel) This saves a lot of arguement over the phone bill. ...

As the other comment says, using this with Orange or Virgin mobile is a great idea, as you are not paying for the 0800 call and peak national calls are only 4p/minute. This is a marked improvement on 35p/min on say ED50. If you call FT as an existing customer - tell them you plan to use a mobile phone on the account and let em know your phone number. this will enable their CLI (caller line identification) information, and means youwont have to put in your account number all the time (or pin!) You can even set numbers in your Nokia address book to say ...
