Description: Un metered internet access 24/7 for £7.99 per month

Newest Review: ... off time of 2 hours (you could log back on again straight away!). Being the lowest tariff, the service remained a no frills affair me aning no email address, no webspace and the worst contention ratio available. For those wondering what I mean by contention ratio. This is basically the amount of members signed up ... more

Having been stung by Bigbluesky for £35 for 1 years unlimited access (which turned out to be a big con) I went to Freeserve. Freeserve were all right for a few months but they eventually became unreliable with frustratingly long logging on times. So finally I came across free24-7. Billed as an unlimited, no frills service for £7.99 a month I was sceptical, but desperate. The price was good and it seemed a realistic amount to be able to provide a sustainable service, without going bust overnight. One other aspect of the service that I liked was the month by month basis of payment/contract. Basically this meant that if you wanted to leave them, you just pressed a button ...  Read the complete review

Free 24-7 have just changed their service. It used to be that they just offered one package (£7.99 for unlimited access) but they were having access problems, now and then, mentioned in other opinions. Their solution has been to offer a range of packages with different amounts of access time and also different user:modem ratios. This seems to have done the trick! I've been using the cheapest package at £7.99 and found that I never go over the time limit for this package (if you do they simply stop your access for that week, not charge you more). The only problem I find on this package is that at times it does seem to get really busy, so I've moved up to ...  Read the complete review

Let’s face it, Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) are about as interesting as choosing a pension or watching the washing machine whilst in spin cycle (it’s quite fascinating when it’s doing a slow wash!). We are here because of them and the internet wouldn’t exist without them. Choosing an ISP isn’t exactly a life-changing experience, nor is it detrimental if you first choose the wrong one and decide to experiment with various others. And that is exactly my philosophy with ISP’s. As offers and prices are changing constantly, it doesn’t hurt to shop around and try different ones, providing they ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Not a good ISP for evening users (218 words)

Free24-7 is a cheap ISP service provided by V21. Unfortunately the high contention ratio means connecting between 4pm and 11:45pm is very difficult to impossible. It provides 28 hours usage per week. And a contention ratio of 20:1. (=1 port for every 20 customers). This means only 5% of customers can connect at the same time, hence the difficulty connecting at popular times. Until recently this ratio wasn't enforced, making it very good value, which is why you will still find some very positive reviews. If you wish to surf in the evening I would advise looking elsewhere. It's still worth considering at the moment ...  Read the complete review
