Advantages: UK based
Disadvantages: Random disconnection
Having been reasonably happy with Freeserve at the end of last year, their advertising campaign did not really bother me. However, the more the campaign ran, the worse their service got. Having been disconnected prematurely a couple of times in three months, I now found I was being diconnected almost hourly. Playing games like backgammon, this was just irritating. Banking and booking travel tickets was a totally different matter. The amount of time and money spent on checking tickets and transactions for double entries or non submission was considerable. I use internet banking to avoid the telephone menus. It has become a regular occurence now to have to ring the banks to see if transactions have been accepted/processed. On e-mailing Freeserve, complaining about their inability to keep up with their own marketing campaign, I recceived a return e-mail saying that, due to the success of their campaign, they did not expect to reply to me within three weeks! I have still not received a reply. I am still getting cut off at important times. I suggest that when you sign up for any ISP that you use an internet based email address (eg hotmail or yahoo) as giving out an ISP email address as your home one ties you to that company. Good luck on finding the perfect host!
