I have used various ISP's and FreeUK is one of the smaller unheard of companies. Compared to Freeserve I tend to connect to FreeUK better with better first time connection. Also FreeUK’s mail account connects a lot quicker and has in general less timeouts. However Freeserve does offer good deals with BT on off-peak and peak connections. The one big advantage of FreeUK is uncensored news groups access, which will allow YOU to decide what you want or not want to look at. Freeserve and other mainstream free ISPs’ impose censorship, which I am totally opposed to. Nildram offers this service at extra cost on their dial-up connection but why pay for something that should be free of charge. FreeUKs’ portal may not be something great to look at but the whole point of the World Wide Web is that you can look at everything else and not restricted to the ISP’s own web portal. FreeUK is the best if you have to pay per minute calls for an allegedly free ISP. After installing a new v90 modem it seems I cannot connect at above 32,000 bps to freeuk. Figuring it might be the modem settings/driver at fault I then decided to read a little more on the freeuk web site FAQ. Apparently I was dialling to the wrong phone number, on rectifying this I tried to connect again but still the speeds was not above 32,000 bps. So I connected to my uk2.net free dialup account and I connected at around 51,000 bps first time.

I first signed up with this ISP ages ago, when it was first introduced and have continued to use it on and off ever since, it really is that good. At first I was attracted by the offer of a large amount of free WebSpace being given and the no nonsence service that Free UK offer. The e-mail facility is very good and reliable, and mails come through quickly showing that their mail servers are good. Connection speeds are stable and consistent throughout the day. They have a well thought out, informative homepage where everything is explained in clear English with none of the technical jargon that can be found with other providers. They also go into explaining how to copy your homepage to their server using different FTP applications and many other helpful features including web based e-mail facility. Simply great for user of every level of expirience, from beginner to advanced. If you are a beginner you will enjoy the well designed site and if you are an advanced user your imagination can really run wild with the large web space allowance that FreeUK give you.

The only bad thing I can say about Freeuk is that you still have to pay for your call's via a local call rate number. Many ISP's could learn a lot from Freeuk, since I joined last year I have had no problems at all. So I can't comment on their customer support as I've never had to use itand 90% of the time I can connect first time round I do use my other ISP more simply because it uses a free call number but if your looking for a reliable ISP I can fully recommend you try Freeuk.

fantastic.... great...... excellent.... what more can I say. I started on the internet with another ISP, which was unreliable, and was told about Freeuk and how I could join up on line. I had nothing to lose except a bad ISP....so I joined. I was very impressed. The server connections are fast, the newsgroups server has over 80,000 newsgroups and it is very easy to add to the list if one of your valuable ng's is not on their list. Only one downfall that I can see with Freeuk, the cost of the calls. Ok it's only 1p per minute after 6pm and all weekend but you can very easily get carried away. I Can't wait for Freeuk to catch up with the 0800 access ISP's...... a great service. 10/10

I believe that FreeUK won several awards from UK computer magazines for being a great ISP... and it's true. I first got on the net in the Great-Freeserve-Rush(tm) of a few years back, when they initially launched. Service was good, but as they grew in popularity, you could feel the strain on the users. So, I jumped ship to FreeUK. After just over two years of membership with them, things have only improved. In fact, my connection speeds have always been faster on FreeUK that any of my other ISP's, thanks to rolling modem upgrades. Even though I'm back with Freeserve for BT's Surftime offer now, FreeUK still handles webspace, email and a spare connection for me... superbly. I've very rarely suffered engaged tones, sporadic disconnections or any other problems. Their tech support team seems helpful and friendly, even offering support for things that might seem like wacky requests.

OK, i've used quite a few pay and don't pay (directly) services and all have had downfalls somewhere, whether it just be connecting down to lack of user support / documentation. However, I stumbled across FreeUK about 1 year ago and I have to say they are the only ISP out of the four I maintain at the moment that has consistently performed in terms of connectivity and support. For a start, their user documentation is clear and concise, but not condescending (which can be annoying for a techie!); connecting to them was soooo easy - they even provide an automated way for windows users to configure their PC. As regards connection speeds, I tend to get the maximum (or near enough) and usually a better connection that an ISP I still pay for! I don't get *ANY* junkmail from them (unlike freeserve) - they have gaming servers for frag fans and all that's missing now is remote mail access. On the whole, impressed.

I have an account with Free Uk, well many actually, to host all my websites (I have half a dozen) and the reasons I come back to Free UK every time is that first of all they are VERY easy to sign up with on line. You have a 'sort of' domain of your own; http://home.freeuk.net/YOURDOMAIN so this is a nice touch and I have never had ANY bother with the service being down or upgraded or not available etc. The support on line is very extensive and just about covers everything you would want to know if you are troubleshooting and if the info your equire does not happen to be here there is a telephone support number you can ring. (Which you have to pay for obviously). I have no complaints at all with Free UK. Whenever I start a new site I always set a new account with them, and I will continue to do so :-))

FreeUK ISP. Free uk is THE BEST Local rate isp i have ever tried, full stop! i Dont claim to have tried them all, but i have tried an awefull lot of them. It has full support for isdn and other fast modems. The website has clear, simple, easy to understand tech support which is what you want from an ISP homepage! The reason for there great service is sharing a backbone network with COLT! one of the leading Pay P/M Subscription isps! so your basicly getting a no frills version of COLT!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

I found this ISP to offer a fast and reliable connection. I've heard from various sources that this uses the same network/backbone as Claranet. If I didn't use unmetered 0800 providers, then this is the ISP I would use. Due to the amount of time I spend on the internet, and the phone calls involved with this ISP (Local Call Rate), it would be too expensive. For those who already pay phone call charges, or are light-users, this is an ideal ISP. I have also found there support to be very knowledgeable and helpful.

I've had experience with Demon, Clara and BT and through them all Free UK remains the most reliable connection and host I have used. They are connected to ClaraNet I believe, and I use them as a back up for my Breathe account (which does have a few problems now and again) An excellent support online with responce to email support within hours (not just an acknowledgement either) Consistent speeds and for non techies like me they support Front Page Extensions and you don't have use FTP to upload pages Web Publishing Wizaed works a dream. My first choice if Breathe went belly up!

All of you may think that free isps generally suck ass...I did aswell, or at least I used to. I am now using FreeUK most of the time as my main dial Up. As I mostly play games online I need a good isp otherwise I would get poor lag. I have treied several others but have found Free Uk to be the best free isp. Also for downloading, I can usually get 4.5k/s out of my old 56k modem, which is good for a modem using a free isp. Most free isps give me very poor download speeds which means i have to spend more time online. However, it isnt completely free, if you want something like that dont look at this review, but generally completely free isps suck for games and downloading.

yep, thats all it is. another "free" isp. where all you do is pay the phone bill. i guess this is good for those ppl new to the internet, but for me having used the internet for ages i want something more, which i have from totalise and surfsaver. all that said i do, well did, find that the dialup is fast. the mail account which i still use, but only for junk mail, is reliable in that i know i the mail will get to me and i can check it whenever. but. on a occasion the mail service doesnt work. all my other mail accounts work fine, freeuk seems to crash every now and then. i think, well hope, that any mail u are receiving stills get to you...
