Advantages: Free texts, Free Wap, Cheap!
Disadvantages: 1 years contract
I, like many other people was tempted to join Genie after hearing about their free text message / wap promotion for a £10 a month fee on a years contract. The £10 a month is a sim card only deal but for £20 a month you can get a mobile handset to go with the sim card. I opted for just the sim and bought myself a mobile phone separately rather than pay the extra £10 a month. I ordered the sim card and five days later it arrived with no postal problems but the sim card had not been activated. I couldn't find the number to ring up Genie from the welcome pack so I rang BT Cellnet who are the provider than supplys Genie with it's coverage to ask for a Genie helpline number. No joy with BT Cellnet. I was advised to use Genies webpage help system and I'm sure that's all dandy if you've got a problem that you can fix but you just need to be taught how, I however needed them to do something at their end. I then opted to ring up the Genie "Help me I've lost my mobile" number and after twenty minutes on hold with some severe elevator music I was assured that by the end of the week the engineers would have the problem sorted. Three days later it was. I'm a happy Genie customer. Yes, things went wrong but Genie sorted it and it's been plain sailing ever since.

- 02/12/01 I must admit my browser (IE6) has some severe problems with Genie's secure website. It takes an AGE just to get some information up and I couldn't order via the website so I just rang the number! |
