Advantages: FREE 0800 access

Disadvantages: No additional service

I started using IC24 when it first launched, and was one of the first to sign up while it was just free access 9-5 at the weekend. I found this to be not enough time for me, so I subscribed to the FreeInternet (TFI). But, now IC24 offers free access each evening as well, I wish I hadn't.

Considering that you pay absolutely no fee to IC24, the 0800 dial-up access is a superb deal. Admitedly, sometimes it is very hard to get connected. But you can't complain, seeing as you don't pay for the service. OK, there is a 60 minute time-out, but that is fare enough.

As far as services are conserned, they provide the usual POP e-mail service, with Outlook Express free on the installation CD. Other that that, you just get access to the Internet. As it's free, you can't expect much more from the service. Lets be honest, this is all that most people want from an ISP. Outside the free hours, you get a standard 0845 number to dial-up with, so nothing special there.

All in all, IC24 can't be beaten. As far as I am aware, nobody else offers this sort of 0800 access without a monthly fee. Try it, there is no catch and you don't have to stay with them if you don't like it.

As far as downlaoding is concerned, my advice is to use a downlad manager, such as 'Download Accelerator'. Not only does it make your downloads quicker, but allows you to resume a download if your connection gets cut. Online gaming: well, if you want a good service, I suppose you have to pay for it. IC24 is completely free, so you can't expect the world from it.

A 60 minute time out is a pain. 2 hours is the timeout on Freeserve an that is too short. When you are downloading or online gaming, this is not acceptable.
