Local TelNewest Review: ... ignored and I had to call upon the help of Oftel when I received a nasty reminder letter. Local Tel claimed it was a computer error and the bill was sent by mistake. Fine, but they did not reply to my letters and I still had no joy in getting through to their customer services department. They didn't even apoligise. A very helpful person at Oftel told me they were inundated with complaints about Local Tel but were really powerless to help as they did not fall under their regulatory powers although they did have a direct link with a senior company employee to help people who have problems with their service. Don't be fooled, this company is the worst I have ever had to deal with. Firstly, although I am not a subscriber, they send me a 'bill' for £68.00. I then tried to contact them through their lo-cost customer service number. After spending 10 minutes on a loop of various instructions on which buttons on my phone to press, I was greeted with the response "all our agents are busy, please try again later", and was promptly cut off. They still use the BT network and you don't change your phone number and you still have access to those familiar services, Telephone Preference Service, 1471, Ring Back, Call Minder, Freinds and Family etc. Benefits for changing to WorldOnline Telecom are the same line rental as you paid for BT. This is all you pay for free off-peak internet access 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday to Thursday and Friday 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday morning. You only pay for 90% of your voice calls when compared to BT. You still get freinds and family reducing 9 numbers by a further 10% and 1 number by a ...

Although the service as poor a while back when there were too many users and not enough capacity there is now nothing wrong with LocalTel/WOL in my opinion.. The internet access is free 24/7 for £15 a month and is quite fast. You rarely get an engaged tone and i you do you usually get through on the next attempt. Telephone calls are also cheaper than BT (who isn't?). Overall a good value for money service and certainly better than using BT surftime. ...
