I set up a first telecom account when I was in my second year as a student. Basically it is a telephone account which has two main advantages: 1) Call charges are much cheaper than usual both in peak and off peak times - especially international calls. I was on the phone to my friend in Australia for 10 minintues and it only cost me approximately £1! 2) It is excellent if you share a house with other students. There is always trouble when working out who made which call. With First Telecom you dont have to worry because you have an account number and pin number which you enter before you key in the phone number you wish to ring and it just ... NextCall telecom (www.nextcall.co.uk) is a fixed line operator that uses BT's network, charging you for the line rental and BT calls - you don't get a bill from BT. The service is identical to BT's, but calls are up to 50% cheaper for long distance and international calls - 25% for local calls In itself that is quite attractive but now they are offering free internet access (i.e. unmetered) in the evening and all weekend - no hidden charges or conditions (as long as you are a customer with your phone, there are no minimum call spend conditions).
