Disadvantages: Broadband, digital tv
We contacted NTL explaining that we required broadband as we both work from home. After verifying our address, they assured us that they could install broadband faster than BT as we were new to the flat and needed a phone line installing aswell. They also sold us the phone and digital package included for £30.
Over the next two weeks we made 13 phone calls to NTL as the broadband never worked and we were informed by an engineer who came to our flat that they could not install in our area for at least 3 months - and that they had always known this.
In repeated phone conversations, this was admitted by NTL customer service advisers and supervisors. When confronted with the accusation that we were only told that they could install broadband in order to sell us the other services, at no point has any member of staff denied this or offered any other explanation. It was admitted to us during every conversation that we were lied to about the service availability, and that the person who sold it to us was aware that they could not install in our area.
Since then, we have also had a fault with the digital tv service every three weeks, which by the way takes at least three days to be fixed.
Despite asking to speak to a manager on every occasion that we called NTL, and being told that a manager would call us every time, we have never been contacted or been put through to a manager.
Summary: Never use NTL
