Disadvantages: Sometimes the Net freezes

NTL Phone and Internet service.

I've been with NTL since December 2000.

At first I was paying £10 per month but in February their price increased to £15. So at the moment it is £15 per month.

So basically for £15 a month, you get complete free 24/7 access to the Internet, as well as £15 worth of free telephone calls.

Also you have to pay a one of charge of £10 for the telephone adapter.

So far I have been able to connect to their service at first attempt, I can't recall a moment when it didn't connect at first go.

I think I have an old telephone line coming into my house, as I have heard that has a bearing on your Internet connection speed, so therefore I have never been higher than 42Kb, however it?s hardly ever been lower than 38Kb.

Once connected, it is mostly a reliable connection, just the odd occasions when I have been disconnected for no reason. There is also a 4 minute idle time, so if you have been idle for 4 minutes you will automatically be disconnected.

I set up my NTL account on a different computer and then manually entered the details in my own computer, so I did not install the ?gearbox? that comes with it, which is supposedly tries to fix any problems you might have with your Internet connection.
I don?t know if other people are noticing this, but during the days, I notice that the net freezes up, where nothing will happen for about a minute, which can be very annoying at times.

Overall it?s a great service, which I am very happy with since World Online changed their set-up.

You get 5 email accounts, and these accounts aren?t where you just add an extra alias in front of the original email add. They will be in the ?your_choice@ntlworld.com? format.

I have no complaints with their phone service; you don?t notice any change from the way you use your BT phone. You ha
ve £15 worth of free calls a month. So if you regularly make £15 worth of calls a month, then to you NTL service will seem completely free..!!

You can check your current bill over the Web. You pay by credit card or direct debit. I?ve never received the bill statement at home. However, everything is viewable over the web, such as, numbers dialled, time of call, length of call etc. All the main features you get with BT are available such as 1471 etc.


Over all if you are on the Internet alot and you can't get NTL Cable in your area, then this is a great choice for you. It works out better than the BT Anytime service, even though the price is same, but with NTL you do have the £15 worth of calls.
