Disadvantages: don't know what they are doing, set up fees, accounts, use your account for no reason, worse cusotmer service ever
after having 3 months of delicious problems with ntl , i fell like warning all the cusotmers that i can from NTL..
here it is,
being a student with no money, i decided ot sign up with ntl to get the phone package at 14 pounds and the broadband.
Obviously ti was too good, broadband was not available for me.
i decided ot go on with the phone line only and get broadband from someone else.
So being i signed up on internet.
with no news from them i had to contact them to realise that they had no trace of my subscribtion... and it took them approximately 1 hour and 32 minutes, talking to some twenty different people (sales service sending me to customer service, cusotmer servcie sending me to sales service.....) to have to do it all over again....
I should have know it was a bad start..
Obvisously i checked over and over again with ntl before suscribing and at the isntallion that it was compatible with tiscali broadband service.. and they told me everything would be fine.
i got my phone line installed (against a deposit of 25 pounds) and it was probably the only thing they did correctly.
I then callled tiscali who told me nicely that it was absloutely not compatible.
i had to call ntl, cancell everyhting 3 days after installing it, set up an account with bt etc....
well this was hell but it's over i thought...too naively.
waht happenned is that ntl where supposed ot give me back my deposit and cancell my acocunt (set up by direct debit)
after 5 phone calls, cancellation ,ect..... i still didn't have the money back
it took them 3 daysto take it out of my account but now there was 2 months there were telling me they had send a check....and nothing came.
Finally after 2.5 month i got the check (which wasn't matching the amount they told me it would be)
but it was not the end. a month went fine , and then i received a bill from ntl telling me that they are taking 25 pounds of my accou
nt for installation fee.
i went ot my bank to cancel the direct debit i ahd with them, whcih the bank did..
i called ntl to clear up this mess and they explained me that @they kind of got mixed up and that they set up a new account for me."
they told me they were cancelling it and that everyhting will be fine..
and today, date of the issue of my ntl bills... my account is showing that ntl took out 25 pounds out of my account.
i went to the bank and they confirmed me that ntl had set up a NEW DIRECT DEBIT and this without me asking for anything or with my permission...the bank basically told me that they had the right to do this because they are doing their transaction over the phone.
we cancelled this new direct debit and i called ntl.
and this was the most incredible and almost laughable customer service i ever recieved...
basically they didn't know what happened, kept telling me that it must be the old direct debit that was still goin on, etc.... gettinga it annoyed i explained them that it couldn't be the old one as the bank has a different direct debit number on their records, and that iwanted to know why they suddenly decided to take money from my account for nothing and without reason.
Still no answer they found out that the last time the account had been cancelled but not the direct debit. she told she had cancelled everyhting and that a check will be snet out today...
i did ask for a written confirmation of this because during this all 3 month i didn't recieve any written proof of the cancellation of my account.
she told me nicely that it wasn't the company policy and that i will receive a bill stating that my ntl account's balance is at 0....
And eevrything of this without any apologies....
Beware of this company, that tells lies, take money of your account for no reason and never ever cancell your account....
if you're thinking about joining them for any reason...STAY AW

i talked with the bank adviser who himself told me they had lots of complaints about them!
