Advantages: Great signal, great customer service
Disadvantages: They can make the occasional mishap, but then so can anyone
I have been a customer of o2 for over two years and I have to say I am really happy with this company.
I started off on an 18 month contract where I received 200 minutes and 500 texts for £25 a month. This really isn't an amazing deal, but I find you have to be with the company for the duration of a contract before you can have much bargaining power with them. The did on one occasion mess up my bill, however they rectified this and added some money to my account to go towards future bills. They also gave me my own complaints person who I could contact directly which I thought was great.
Once the contract ended I threatened to leave and they offered me a rolling one month contract with 400 mins, 1000 texts for £20 a month. I recently changed over to a £15 tarriff with 300 mins and 400 texts because I didn't need all the texts and minutes I was previously getting. Switching was really easy, I just called customer service, which is now free to do from an O2 phone, they changed it there and then and I didn't need a new sim or number or anything everything just stayed the same I just get a smaller bill now! The best thing about my tarriff is that I only have to give a months notice to quit or change my tarriff, which is nicer then being locked into a long running contract.
O2 is also the best phone network I have ever used for signal! I have had no problems at all and often am the only one of my friends with signal when we are in a bad reception area.
There are also added extras to being an O2 customer, such as priority tickets for events in the O2 arena, cheaper broadband from O2 for customers vs. non customers, as well as the ability to store numbers and data online so that if the phone is lost or broken you still have all the details you need.
Finally it is incredibly easy to manage your O2 account with the online website, you can log in and it tells you how many minutes and texts you have left, how much your bill will be etc. An email is also sent out detailing how much will be debited before it is removed from your account which I find handy as otherwise I can forget they are taking money at all!
I cannot comment on the O2 pay as you go sims because I have never been a pay as you go customer, although I would imagine they are just as good.
Overall I am giving O2 4/5 because I have only had the one problem with them, being the bill mishap when I first got a contract but other then that they have been impeccable!

Summary: Definately recommend this network provider!
