I'm the one, Yes It's Me! I can surf the net with my TV. To write this opinion all in verse, really would be for the worse. So now your friend Daisy Ducky will revert to prose, aren't you lucky. Seriously now, I have been able to use the Ondigital internet service, called on net since it was launched. I do have a PC, so why bother with the TV system? Well we really got it for back-up, as the whole family are hooked on surfing we thought should the PC fail us we could use the on net. When we first got it we used it quite regularly as it cost no more than using our regular pay -as-you-go ISP. But since going onto an unlimited access plan on the computer we hardly ever use the on net box. What does on net offer ... Free internet access through your TV. On mail+ e-mail service. Firstly the cost and conditions. You need to be receiving the ondigital TV service to join on net. You rent the box . We pay £5 per month, but I believe it is going up to £8. Calls are charged to your phone bill. We pay 2p per minute peak rate and 1p off peak through a BT line. Technical support is available online through e-mail or at around 50p per minute by telephone. Installation. Very simple just plug it into your digibox and phone socket. Size Small, about the size of a paperback book. Has a 56k modem. Can be upgraded on line. Provides secure on line shopping. You can add a printer. The keyboard is cordless so you can surf from your armchair. Ease of Use. This is a sticky one. You have no mouse, so you navigate using the cursor keys. This can be a real pain trying to highlight the button you want and doesn't always work when using search boxes. Access to the whole web. Well yes you can access any web site address, but you cannot always use it to the full, we found that the Encyclopaedia Brittanica site could not be us
ed, and our online banking facility. Connection. Because we are one of the few conection has been 100% first attempt and we have never been involuntarily logged off. E-mail Some people may have the on-mail TV service which can send basic text e-mails. The on mail+ can also have video stills and audio clips added to your message. When you have e-mail waiting to be read a little envelope comes up in the corner of you TV screen, but you have to be watching an on-digital channel to see it. The Home Page. Recommend it to a friend. I have put yes, but with a lot of reservations. If you already have your own PC then I would't bother. If you enjoy surfing and have to use a cyber cafe or library and want more privacy, then it could be an option. The main advantage is that the whole system is rented and there is no outlay on hardware at all. But for seasoned PC users it is slow and frustrating to navigate. For writing DooYoo ops. I wouldn't recommend it, as you can't down load from a wordprocessor file and would have to do it all online. On net are currently
advertising heavily because they have entered into a deal with Tesco to get your groceries while watching TV. I have used this ISP to order a couple of items from choc express but I don't expect to be using it for Tesco. One final thing, if you like to surf and watch TV at the same time( oh no) then you can inset the TV picture in the corner of your screen.
