Advantages: cinema & pizza deal
Disadvantages: expensive, crap reception
I joined orange in November after being with T-mobile for six years. I moved from T-mobile as my parents used to pay my contract and now that I've left university I was to take on my own contract. So after searching on various websites, which by the way you can get better deals on when compaired to shops, however in a shop you can say for example Carphone Warephone offered me "this" and phones 4u will match and try go one better, an article in the sun news paper stated that in a test this worked and the tester ended leaving phones for you with free cash back and a blue tooth headset free! But anyway back to my main point, after searching in the phones for you sale on the website I found dolphin 35 - which is 600 anytime minutes, and unlimited texts. This is £35 a month witha free samsung omnia (was £449.99 rrp at time) , a free xbox 360, free 3 months insurance. I thought what a great deal and bought it, the phone was delivered within 3 days.
So Lets get to the basics on my experience with Orange. After a week i found my reception was appaling, i do not get any reception in shopping centres, or very rare and pointless reception which comes and goes. I do not get reception in my bedroom unless im sat on my windowsill, which again is a joke. My reception just disappears in random places. I decided this was a joke as this never happened with T-mobile. I rang Orange and advised of this issue, and they stated I live near a htspot or something meaning my reception will be a bit pants but will be rectified, after 10 months, my reception = still s**t! I mean why claim to be god when your not, I've spoken to workmates and friends and they state they all ahve the same problem. As for being in a low reception location, I've been manchester, Derby, nottingham, bracknall, uxbridge and brighton in the last gew months, now unless these places are all places with guaranteed poor recption i was lied too, the phone is always pretty useless.
Next issue .. my phone bill! According to my statement i never go over allocated 600 mins, and my texts are unlimited.. i do not use kobile internet.. so somebody tell me why my bills always range between £45-£49??? ive never had a £35 bill. I didnt use my phone for two weeks i left it in a drawer at home as i went glastonbury and sharm el sheikh, bt the bill was £48.. how?! the statements does not explain what I am being charged for.
On the bonus i get orange wednesday, a great offer I'll give the that, but you can just get your mates on orange to forward you a text! Im pretty sure half price cinema and the odd trip to pizza express does not make up for my crappy signal, and expensive bills!
Summary: waste of time and money

- 02/09/09 I agree, Orange suck! I got a contract with them, got the phone home, and I got no signal in my home, or even 100 outside my home. When I bought the phone the store told me I was in a 'perfect' signal area!! Fortunately they allowed me to cancel the contract immediately; I've heard stories of other people being less fortunate.
In regards to the T-Mobile comment I've never had a problem with them at all; and I've been with them for almost five years. Their service is excellent wherever I go, they are helpful when you call for advice or help, and there is no problem with them trying to rip you off!! |

- 24/08/09 They stung me for the direct debit although I had filled in the right form, I have complained and it has been credited. They certainly don't make it easy to see what they are charging you for but at least you get an idea! x |
