Advantages: Cheap

Disadvantages: Very unreliable, poor support, lack of information about current status.

I subscrbed to the RedHotAnt "Advanced" level service soon after it was launched in early April. It promised 24/7 free connection for a £30 sign on fee and £20 for the first year of service. In my experience, the 24/7 availabilty which was promised has never been met. Right from the start, getting on line in the evenings has been virtually impossible.

Initially, connections during the morning were quite quite reliable and fast but this has gradually deteriorated and now the chances of obtaining a connection during the mornings are just as poor as any other time. I have not been able to log on through RHA at all now for past 3 days, despite multiple attempts at all times of the day! There are many others who have had similar problems but all we get from RHA are promises that things will improve and excuses about being "held up" by other agencies.

Things have become so bad that an unofficial RHA support website has been operating for some time where other poor suckers who have signed up to this awful service can commiserate with each other (RHAsupport@ezboard.com)

My advice to anyone thinking of a free connection ISP is do not sign up for this particular service if you need a reliable connection to the net.

Further to ther above - just received an email from RHA today (16th Jan 2001) to say that the RHA unlimited access service will cease from today. So we didn't even get our full 12 months useage although we were promised this when we signed up! The message also said no compensation would be offered. Ah well, put it down to experience. Next time I will sign up to a deal it will be on a monthly payment basis where you don't stand to loose so much if it does go "tits up". BT anytime which is due to start later this month offers 24/7 access for £14.99 per month. Looks like it might be a good deal.

Being an Internet user for sometime, I've learnt you often pay for what you get when it comes down to ISP's. This isn't a very realistic price for a good service. AOL a charging a more realistic price at £15 a month (Eg. £180 a year). I've heard Redhotant.co.uk have improved a little, but have also increased the price.

Hi Nimrodimc - i wrote a review of RHA giving them the benefit of the doubt recently, but as from the last couple of days my opinion of them has plummeted...check out my latest comments and thanks for the tip on the unofficial RHA support site.
