Advantages: All the freebies- we like those
Disadvantages: I didn't switch sooner
I moved over to TALKTALK to try and save money on my phone and broadband costs. I was happy with my then providers, but cost savings were needed.
So I switched to a package that gave me my call package, my line rental and my broadband for £17.74 a month. This included a free wireless router.
The broadband gives a 40gb download limit and up to 8meg download speed, the upload speed is 1024kbps.
I can have up to 5 e mail addresses and it comes with built in virus protection.
My call package gives me unlimited UK evening and weekend calls to landlines and free local weekday calls. Unlimited anytime calls to other TALKTALK customers are also standard. It also gives free evening and weekend calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers. You get a free standard voicemail service as well.
As with similar offers the calls are free up to an hour so if you can talk for longer (!!??!!) hang up after 59 minutes and redial.
Now there are extras you can add on, which are explained clearly on their website e.g caller display. I personally, pay an extra £2.00 a month for unlimited international calls to Ireland.
On their website you can log into your account and see all your details including as yet unbilled calls. I like the site it is easy to use.
Like many suppliers today you will need to add on £1.25 a month if you want a paper invoice. An option I doubt any would take up- after all if you were desperate for a copy, you could always print it out when the e mail arrives.
Another wonderful bonus for me at least has been that calls to their customer services or helplines are free from your talk talk landline, As an added bonus, the people you get to speak to are charming and helpful.
I have made two calls for tech advice and on both occasions, I received an e mail asking for my opinion on how my query had been dealt with. I was impressed by that follow up. Incidentally, but importantly, on both occasions the help was wonderful.
One word of caution- I switched suppliers when they had a deal offering free connection- so that saved me £29.99 So if you are thinking of switching check this out- or use a comparison site that pays you for switching- that would at least go part way to offset the connection cost.
To get this deal at the price I agreed to, I had to accept an 18 month contract, I was confident in accepting these terms as once I was connected I had 30 days in which to say it wasn't working for me and just pay for one month.
So, to summarize I am paying over £10 a month less for a better service, plus savings on call costs-now that is something to TALKTALK about.
Summary: A telecommunications company that cares- now that is rare

- 21/08/09 I have had talk talk for about 3 years and all was great until three months ago they rang to offer a package including 3 way calling I declined it and said I wouldnt use it but they went ahead with it anyway and found i ended up paying £37 a month instead of £21.99 its taken 2 months to sort out despite me quite clearly telling them NO. |
