Tiscali steal money and ignore emails (Tiscali (Lineone))

Avoid any dealings with Tiscali as I have had two major instances of them acting in a dishonest manner, including one which amounts to theft.

Firstly I subscribed to a telephone service provided by Screaming Net, who were taken over by World Online and subsequently by Tiscali. Shortly after taking over the service Tiscali closed it down in July 2001. As an "administrative error" they charged me line rental beyond the termination date, but assured me that this would be corrected once the final bill was issued. The final bill came and went and a net refund was due, but none appeared. After contacting them a number of times I was told that a refund would be paid, and indeed that one had been paid, but none has ever been received. Since the last correspondence from them in May 2002 they have not responded to any subsequent emails.

Secondly in spring 2001 I recommended a friend in one of their regular 'recommend a friend and receive a free software title' promotions. The selected title persistently failed to arrive, and I contacted them and was assured on a number of occasions that the issue would be dealt with by a "senior agent". Needless to say I did not receive this either, and more recent emails on this subject have also not even warranted a response by them.
