Advantages: Second best internet service provider with decent customer services
Disadvantages: fair usage policy
I have been using Virgin Media broadband services for over 4 years now. I was with Talk-talk before that and had a very bad experience of not only internet speed and connectivity in general but a very bad customer service as well.
Virgin has definitely been a pleasant change after that. Many of my friends have also taken up virgin after my recommendation and I havent yet heard people moaning about the virgin's services.
Things I like:
1. Good customer service.
2. Good connectivity and competitive price plan.
Things I dont like:
1. Fair Usage Policy: I have been receiving end of this fair usage policy prevelant in the industry. I usually watch online sport matches or movies etc. There was some cricket series going on and I watched longer than I generally do. From next week my internet connection was capped. Although they claim that they cap your net for a week, but they put you in a high monitor list and if you are found using even a little bit higher than usual, they will continue to cap you.
One of the ridiculous incident that happened was that they capped my net for 2 weeks continously. Upon enquiring they said I used more than my fair usage policy even during the week internet was capped. I am still clueless how could I have exceeded the limit even after receiving very low net speed in which only thing one can do is open general websites.
Except this one off incident, the experience with virgin has been pretty satisfying. If you dont have access to O2 internet services then I think Virgin is next best on offer.
Summary: If you dont have access to O2 then Virgin is next best on offer!
