Introduction:- Free ISPs have now become about as common to the Internet as Pigeons to town centres. All types of free ISPs have risen from the ashes of communication technologies, some offering free shares, others free domains and a very few even let you have 0800 access. The rest of the free ISPs are usually your bog standard affair with little or no real selling points. So what about a FREE ISP that hits you on several fronts, firstly giving you the ability to host a domain on their server, secondly making the domain transfer a FREE process and lastly concentrating on making the service astoundingly fast. In step Vispa Internet, one FREE ISP that has been making waves in the Internet community. Services:- Vispa Internet not only offers all the usual perks of a free ISP in modern times, 15mb web space, E-Mail, Newsgroup access and 0845 dial-up, but also a few extra bits. For a start they'll host your domain (domains are now a lot cheaper in the UK) and there will be NO fee for the transfer onto their system (usually costs £20-£40 odd). They also have their own up-to-date game servers with Quake3Arena and Unreal Tournament amongst others running 24/7. If you want that little bit extra then they also support Front Page extensions on their web server as well as have a selection of CGI Scripts and own their own IRC server. It doesn't take much to see that Vispa is trying harder than a cat up a tree to get things right and in so doing is starting to push its competition aside. Not only that but its focus on providing TOP performance is easily noticeable. Whether you're on ISDN or Modem a quick login and test of download speeds and packet loss/ping reply times says a lot. We found Vispas speeds to match those of BT Internet who have recently recovered from a serious and lengthy service and support problem and now go very fast indeed. Multiplayer was faster than your average free ISP and modem users will be particularly happy with the service they receive.all new ISPs are fast until they get more users, but hopefully Vispa will stick by their service and keep it up to scratch. Support:- Support from Vispa comes in all the usual forms and there really isn't anything special about it compared to others. You can contact them via E-Mail or phone (national number) and their website also hosts a large help database that's actually helpful. The lack of any 0845 support number and of course a fax number is a little unexpected but then they do reply via E-Mail with quite some haste anyway. Verdict:- Vispa doesn't have 0800 and for that it can never be the best but if it did offer 0800 then we could quite easily see them becoming hugely popular. For now though they have top services and average support with good response times. ISDN users might not find them as speedy as some free ISPs, however we expect most Modem users to find them extremely fast indeed. Vispa is one ISP that proves you don't have to be commercial to offer a top of the range service. A good ISP that misses out in lack of support, slightly more informative web pages and perhaps a dash 0800. One good thing to note is that you can ask them for a free (no-sign up) trial to see how good they are.

Vispa.net are looking to launch an ISP service sometime in November 2000. They are currently inviting pre-launch signups for customer priority looking to limit the number of initial users. They will be offering a range of services - Vispa lite - 0345 access, Vispa off peak - a monthly fee free off peak service, Vispa 24*7 a monthly fee 0800 servics, and Vispa ASDL - a high speed broad band service. Only time will tell if these are any good or whether Vispa goes the same way as other 0800 ISP services....... If you are looking for an ISP, try the following site for a large list www.limitless.co.uk/inetuk/providers.html
