Advantages: Free phone???, International partners

Disadvantages: Call costs, Voicemail charges

Fooled by all the advertising hype and PR generated positive image, also caved in under the peer pressure. Recently switched from Virgin Mobile to vodafone to get a WAP phone for free and a relatively low line rental £11.99 including semi-useful 300 free offpeak minutes and 50 free SMS's. Another motivating factor was that Virgin could not send international SMS to certain countries. REMEMBER to ALWAYS read the SMALL print!!! Call charges are well above those offered by Virgin mobile, I would even say excessive, voicemail is still not free, and the network coverage seems patchy when compared with my previous phone. The first monthly bill I received would have covered 3 months on the old network, and now I'm locked into a 12 month contract. I don't know who does PR for vodafone, but they must be the best in the business, they provide a mediocre product packaged like the best thing going in years! I have to take some of the blame as I was fooled by the hype (even from friends that are usually reliable in these situations!), but if this only serves to give you pause enough to reconsider then job done!

I've just ordered a phone on this network having done over 2 years with one2one...
One2one have excellent rates and free voicemail, however if you only uise your phone a small amount then it can end up cheaper having much higher call charges and a lower monthly line rental...
I'm currently paying an average of £21 a month and getting 75 free minutes which I mostly don't use...I'm also being charged 10p per 0800 call which as I make quite afew of those is a pain.
On vodafone I'll pay £12.99 per month + calls and reckon it should be cheaper in the long run...I'll also get 5oo off peak minutes and 50 SMS messages a month included in that... at the moment I can only receive texts and would have to pay extra for the facility to send...
I think I'll be better off...throw in the free phone and DVD player (yes really) and I think for a year's contract I'll have done OK!

Welcome to Dooyoo.

Good opinion, and I think you're absolutely right about Vodafone - excessive prices and poor service are what you generally get out of them. Unfortunately a lot of my friends have Vodafone pay-as-you-talk mobiles because there was a time when Vodafone lured customers in with dirt-cheap phones and then whacked them with heavy call charges and service charges too.

I'm with Genie (contract) now anyway. Their customer support is really bad, but at least the network is good and has cheap calls.

An interesting opinion, I gave up having a mobile phone altogether some time ago and have found life a lot more relaxed. However my wife has been dropping hints. Virgin may indeed be the way to go.
