For those of you who are still trying to use this ISP - GIVE UP! The 0800 advert has been taken off the site, the MD of liberty surf has confirmed that the service is no longer available. I am not worried that the service has gone though, as I only ever connected to it twice in 2 years! I just thought I would let ... Read the complete review

As a great fan of the engaged tone I was delighted when I joined x-stream! I can now dial in at any time during off-peak and hear their beutiful tone! When it stops, I simply redial to hear it again! But, more seriously, X-Strem is awful. You'll never manage to dial into their freephone number because it's always engaged. Even ... Read the complete review

I'm not personally attacking this ISP - I have nothing against them other than the fact service has been poor. X-Stream requires you to download its own software. I have no problem with that as it did not overwrite my DUN settings. However, the software provided is poor. It keeps on freezing my PC. The software has got odd moments when it does ... And you get nout. X-Stream is shocking. At first it was great, it said off peak trial and I could get onto that no problem. Then after about a month the problems started. It took half an hour for me to connect each time. The hour disconnection seems a good idea, but after you are disconnected once it is impossible to get back on. A pity as the ... I read quite a lot of reviews about X-stream, saying that it was nearly impossible to dial up their server. Despite this I still decided to give them a try, as I had nothing to lose. I mean, I just went to their site, downloaded their zip file (1.5mb), didn’t take long. I went offline (from btinternet) and opened the zip file. The software ... Read the complete review

X-Stream was a very revolutionary invention. It was the UK's first ever completely free ISP, offering free service and free calls too. Obviously because of this hundreds of thousands of customers flocked to them and hence by the time it initially was stopped(shortly after Liberty Surf bought X-Stream), it was incredibly difficult to connect as ... 24/7 net access isn't cheap, AOL are charging £15 a month which works out at £180 a year plus line rental for the phone, me being a poor student I have to make do with off peak only access only. So you can probably imagine my excitement when my friend told me of an ISP called X-Stream, and the fact that they were offering 24/7 0800 access for ... Read the complete review

While x-stream offer you free unlimited internet access via 0800 all weekend you can expect the service to be busy to a certain extent and you were right - all the 0800 service is is busy and no use at all. All you will hear are engaged tones which will only frustrate you , they also offer local call rate access all the time which is ... Read the complete review

Currently offering 0800 net access all weekend x-stream was one of the first ISP's to offer internet access with no subscription at local call rate , their 0800 internet access is on and off and as can be expected their 0800 service is x-streamly busy but the fact is you don't pay anything while using their freephone 0800 number and there ... UPDATE 12/05/2002 *************** My opinion is no longer relevant, X-STREAM don't exist anymore and you are now directed to Tiscali instead. They offer 24/7 Internet access for a similar price to AOL, I have heard mixed reviews but have never used them. ORIGINAL OPINION ************** I signed up for this ... Read the complete review

X-Stream have been trialling 0800 access for some time now, from what I remember about one year ago they began. At this time the concept was unique and no other ISP provided anything like free access on a free call number. This trial resulted in a lot of people being unable to connect which considering it was a trial was to be ... Read the complete review

X-Stream offers you a free connection to the internet after 6pm on weekdays and all weekend with no charges whatsoever, you dial in to an 0800 number and the service is offered on a trial basis. Sounds wonderful eh?? Well, 'fraid not!! Because if you do manage to connect to the free 0800 number then you are doing considerably better ... Read the complete review

To be fair to X-Stream they have tried the impossible, to provide free, no subscription, no call charges internet access for the UK. But in no way has it pulled off. It used to take fifteen to thirty connection attempts to get on and when I did the connection speed was very slow. Even then you have to put up with the also annoying adverts bar. ... No matter how outdated or unpopular the X-Stream Network may be today, you can't deny that it helped get the ball rolling to unmetered Internet Access. I was amoung the first users back in 97 and 98, when X-Stream announced one of the UK's first non-subscription dialup services. While many ISPS such as Demon charged a monthly fee for their ... As everyone who has tried to connect to extreme knows, It's a bit hit and miss. (Miss most of the time) you either connect 1st time or spend 20mins trying to connect. I have configured a dial up connection that just keeps trying to connect (with redail set to 1sec). I just double click the icon and walk away. When I go back ... Read the complete review

It used to be fairly easy to get onto, 24/7, but X-Stream is virtually impossible to connect to these days. The 0800 number worked just fine until they started altering things. The service wasn't available for some time while they revamped their system and now it has come back on. I haven't managed to get connected at all. ... Read the complete review

X-Stream used to be a decent ISP, because it was free. I used to log on most nights which seemed to work after about 20+ times. But this wasn't all good. I used to log on about 12.30-1.00am in the morning where most people were in bed. I got a few decent hours each month which was brilliant, and this carried on for about 6+ months. Then one ... X-Stream started as a normal phone bill only company 2 years ago, very soon they started a trial 0800 system and ran it for selected weekends only. As time progressed so the 0800 access grew to evenings and ultimately to 100%. We've all seen that these systems dont work on their own, and indeed X-Stream run the regular phone bill dial up ... X-Stream offer a service that it truly free - no call charges, no set-up fees and no subscriptions. 0800 access at selected times for absolutely nothing means there is obviously going to be a large call for this service, and their is! I signed up for x-stream from the very beginning and found it to be the most exasperating experience. Having spent an hour trying to get connected to their "free" service I found massive phone bills popping through my letterbox. The reason? The connection was reset but x-stream software did not inform me. I mailed x-stream to complain ... Read the complete review
