I have been using Zoom as one of my ISP's and has by far the quickest connection speeds. COMPETITIONS You'll always find a wide range of prize winning competitions at Zoom prize draws. They're fun, free to enter and could win you any one of the many prizes. This is a shopping site, which is purely on-line and offers links to many high street shops, therefore allowing you to buy from these shops on line. It is set out like a magazine and therefore is very easy to use and navigate. It is fun and colourful and incorporates many features into the website. The have a number of sections: Men’s fashion – including Adidas, Joe boxer, dolce and gabbana, kickers, paul smith, Nike. Fred Perry etc. Women’s fashion – including Adidas, principles, versace, wade smith, Topshop, seven at Evan’s, debenhams etc. Health and beauty – superdrug, NHS direct etc. Also articles beauty wizard to answer your questions etc. Lifestyle – choose from different categories like students, prizes draws, house, food and drink etc. Leisure – again choose from categories including music, cinema, theatre, gigs etc. Travel – including thomascook.com, expedia.co.uk, online travel company etc. Provides links to all sorts of sites plus travel help and information. Tecistore – this includes links to computer sites such as amazon.co.uk etc, also more advice and help Gifts – links to sites that sell all manner of gifts, very useful for xmas or birthdays SHOPPING This is obviously what this site was designed for and it offers an excellent range of high street names as well as on-line only brands and many specialist retailers. Be warned though that the prices of these stores are often expensive, as they are the better known brands. These shops include Topshop, Dorothy Perkins etc., many well-known high street brands. This site allows you to link to their site, which then allows normal on-line shopping. This is therefore a useful website, as these links are often hard to find as they are often not simply called topshop.co.uk etc. OTHER FACITITIES There are some excellent competitions on this site ranging from a
weeks family holiday to Florida to sun creams! They are very easy to enter and need you to enter your details in the boxes (including name, address, e-mail etc.) They also offer an on-line dating service, loyalty points through shopping with them as well as special offers only available on-line. They offer plenty of advice for all sorts of matters – this comes in the form of ‘agony aunts’ and articles providing advice. This is a well-designed site that offers some excellent choice and interesting reads. It is set out like a magazine with features on fashion, beauty etc. It can be expensive, so watch the prices but overall it is fun and worth a look next time you are on-line shopping.
I have used zoom purely as a web based e mail service. The offer available for signing up with zoom is currently a £10.00 gift voucher for arcadia stores (top shop, principles burton etc). You can qualify for this by signing up for an e mail address, and checkint your inbox at least 3 times in the first 30 days. To sign up you will need a cd from your local arcadia store, which will should have a reference number for the store you collected it from. Mine did not but a quick call to the store and I got the number for top man in Newcastle ( which is 0778 if anyone needs it). The voucher did come and I used it to buy a top, once the staff worked out what it was, as they hadn't seen one before. There was also an offer for a free gift when you refer a friend on the site. I did this, and got a mail from them to say I qualified for a free t shirt. 2 months later the t shirt has not arrived. The only other zoom service i have seen is the website itself. This has lots of links to buy from arcadia shops, and a few others. They are mainly clothes related, and as this is not something i tend to buy on the net i have not found this useful, although they could well be more useful for others.
If you are looking for an ISP that is reliable, friendly and will soon be offering free access then this is the one. Zoom I think are fairly unique in that not only do they have a good ISP service they also have a really interesting web-site. Their customer care is great and they are soon gong to have Zoom Free that gives you an 0800 number to call for your internet access so it doesn't cost you a penny. They are well worth checking out if you find your current ISP does not satisfy you
Zoom is probably the only other ISP I have used after my main 24/7 provider. It is very competant and gives fast connection speeds. I have not had the need to contact customer service because the online registration is very straight forward. It will download the data onto your pc then all you need to do is run it. This file can be copied to any other computer that you may have. This then makes your Explorer that much easier to set up. If you refer someone to the service they send you a good quality T shirt. The only thing that this service needs is a 24/7 option. If this does happen and the other things stay has they are at present, the service will be up there with the best.
I first heard news of Zoom via an e-mail that promised free internet access in exchange for cortporate advertising being slapped constantly in front of your eyes. Fine I thought, sounds like a bargain to me. Problem was everybody else had the same idea. When I did eventually get connected, the server broke, after the ad-bar had finally loaded up. Things improved and customers service was great in response, but I found it all very annoying and tiresome. A great idea, reasonably executed, but in my opinion could have been so much better. That was then, this is now. According to a variety of sources - friends and enemies, things have changed a lot. The interesting thing is that I'm interested to give them another go.
I signed up with Zoom a few months ago after seeing the free CD in a shop which was offering a £5 gift voucher if you signed up with them. So I did that, just to get the voucher and not intending to use the service. However, I did try it out a few times and have to say I was very impressed. The connection speed is fast and I have yet to get an engaged tone. It offers web or POP3 email and 20MB of webspace - which I must get round to using! I now use it as my main non 0800 access ISP as it is particularly good at busy times when my free ISP is very slow or engaged and I just need my daily dooyoo fix. Zoom announced that they would be offering 0800 access in the future with a one off connection fee of around £25 which would be redeemable for shops on their vast online shopping mall. However, as more and more companies offering 0800 access are having difficulties, I don’t know when (or indeed if) Zoom will be offering the service. The 0800 info has recently disappeared from their website and I haven’t received any emails regarding it so it may not be happening in the near future at all. Despite the lure of free calls, I feel that Zoom should keep its access service the way it is as it is currently very fast and the influx of users wanting free access will probably slow down the servers and yet again I’ll be forced to find another backup ISP. That aside, Zoom’s main focus is as a shopping portal and it certainly is a very good one. As well as having shops such as Topshop and Burton which are in the Arcadia group (one of Zoom’s sponsors), it also has the likes of Beautique, If you shop with Zoom, you can earn Zoom points which you can redeem at these shops. It may be a bit of a gimmick but if you are going to be shopping online there anyway then it is something for nothing. Overall, Zoom is a good ISP with great content, fast connection speeds and reliable email.
Zoom has some strong links with the Arcadia high street stores as well as the Metro newspaper. There are always lots of shopping links but to the compers out there, it is always full of competitions. They were even giving a way a car for the Father's day celebrations. Zoom is also an ISP (Isn't everyone?) but I haven't used them myself. I would say that zoom is quite a well designed site with great competitions but not much else. Check it out at www.zoom.co.uk
