BT Lyric 1100 Twin
by Edwardb92
Since my grandma has been living with us for the past few weeks while her new house is been sorted out she seems to have decided that our house is hers. One of the things she has done is taken it into her interest is to put more telephones in our house, apparently 5 phones is not enough for one house, so she has decided to add these two ... perils to the families.
looks. in terms of looks the BT Lyric handsets are quite ugly and fat looking devices, they don't really look good anywhere and quite frankly I prefer them when they're hidden and out of the way of anyone coming round that may inadvertently see the because really, they are embarrassing aren't they. They look so outdated I'd go as far as saying they look as though they just got pulled out of the 90's. The cradle for them is actually quite good and the phones slip into the quite easily, they also don't take too long to charge which i thought would be one of the negatives of this phone so there's a positive.
functionality. The functionality of these phones in my opinion are quite low, they just annoy me quite honestly, for some odd reason whenever you answer the phone it is automatically on loudspeaker so you go to answer stick your ear to the hand set and it sounds like someone is screaming down the phone at you. The buttons also don't press very well and sometimes even though you have pressed quite hard it doesn't register the fact that you did it and you have to cancel it and start again.
In my opinion if you're looking for a new phone and are looking at these i would consider anything else but, they will just spend there entire time annoying you and making you wish you'd made a different choice. Read the complete review |

Panasonic KX TG2511ET
by Drewster_Rooster
Introduction
Setting up a new home is always a costly exercise and its only when you're in the middle of doing it that you soon realise about all the extra little bits and bobs that need to be bought. I've recently moved into a new place and one of my top priorities was having Sky TV and Broadband installed, I spend a lot of ... time on-line so needed a broadband provider and taking advantage of one the Sky offers that were available I signed myself up and the installation went ahead last week. It dawned on me soon after that I would need a telephone as part of the package I went for included line rental for a landline and as I normally stay in touch with friends and family via my mobile phone I hadn't really given much thought as to what sort of telephone I would actually want. I looked in the usual places; Amazon, Tesco and Curry's and in the end settled for the subject of this review, the Panasonic KX-TG2511 Digital Cordless phone. It was on offer at a shade under £20.00 and looked quite stylish from the picture on the box and as I didn't need anything too fancy I thought it would fit the bill nicely. So what do I think?
Features
The colour scheme in my living room is based on a palette of greys and blacks so a consideration for me when buying a phone was its colour. I wanted something that blended in with its surroundings and wouldn't look out of place, the Panasonic KX-TG2511 (hereby referred to as the "2511" for the remainder of this review) is black in colour and quite simply presented as a handset and charging stand/base. It comes complete with 2 AAA batteries which need to be inserted into the handset, a telephone cable to plug into a landline socket and mains cable which is quite long in length. It's worth pointing out here that ideally you could do with your telephone socket being located quite close to an plug socket as the two cables do need plugging in to enable the phone to work as it is a cordless model. Both cable lengths are of decent size but aren't excessively long but in my living room I have plenty of sockets so setting the phone up wasn't a problem for me.
The 2511 is easy to set up and the handset sits firmly in its cradle when not in use. The handset itself looks quite stylish, feels robustly made and fits nicely into your hand and the buttons are of a decent size so that they are easily pressed when you want to make a call. The cradle is relatively small and takes up little space where it is stood and all in all for the money it costs it looks a pretty decent little phone. It is cordless which is handy, you don't need to be fixed in one spot when making and receiving a call and its 50 meter range is more than enough for my home and allows me to wander around whilst chatting. There are 16 inbuilt polyphonic ringtones to choose from so finding something that appeals shouldn't be too difficult and the handset itself has an adjustable volume and speakerphone control allowing you to set it to your own requirements. A good feature of the phone is its capacity to store upto 50 names and numbers in its phone book and also has a 10 number redial function too.
Although I didn't buy this model specifically for it's eco-friendliness it does have an "Eco Mode" setting which reduces the power consumption by 90% when the phone is in standby. For me this is a handy feature to have, my landline isn't used that much in all honesty as I tend to use my mobile phone for the majority of my calls so the fact that it isn't using a lot of electricity to keep it running can only be a good thing. The Eco Mode is a selectable setting from the phone's menu and an illustrated icon illuminates on the handset when activated, I'm actually quite impressed that this is a feature of a sub-£20.00 phone and is definitely a strong selling point if this model is one you are considering buying. On a full charge the handset has up-to 18 hours worth of talk time before it needs putting back on its cradle and 170 hours of standby charge so if there's an electricity outage then losing your connection shouldn't be anything to worry about.
In use
It's all well and good having a telephone that looks the part but its how clear you can hear anyone who calls you and you them that's the important thing and the 2511 is excellent in all regards. The adjustable volume works well and anyone who has called me on this phone has been able to hear me clearly and I've never had any problems hearing them either. I might not have had the phone long but up to now I have been very impressed with what it has offered me and I have had to make a number of calls over the past few days updating my address details with various organisations so it has already been well used in a relatively short period of time. I find that I can wander around whilst speaking and don't experience any drop in signals or audible crackles or distortions on the line. It's certainly clearer than my i-phone and I must admit to being pretty impressed with the clarity of sound and just how clearly the person on the other end of a phone call sounds.
I like the buttons on the face of the phone, they're clearly marked and just the right size to be easily pressed without my thumb or finger venturing off onto the wrong digit and as far as handsets go there's nothing important to criticise with this particular model as far as I'm concerned. It is lightweight when held which may be a problem for families with children or anyone who is spectacularly clumsy and I doubt it would withstand much of a battering if it was dropped on the floor but I'm not going to test that theory out for this review. So long as you don't throw it around I can't see its construction being a problem and you really don't want anything too heavy to hold anyway when you're speaking on the telephone so I'm not going to complain too much about its weight. It does look and feel well made, the handset sits nicely into the cradle which beeps to let you know it has been positioned correctly and I like the brand name of Panasonic anyway. All in all it's a feature packed model which wouldn't look out of place in anyone's living room and costs around £20.00 so there's nothing to fault it as far as I'm concerned and I would recommend this one to anyone looking for a new phone for their home and have a small budget to spend. It comes with a 12 month warranty as standard and can be coupled up to additional handsets if required and is definitely recommended by me. I bought mine from Tesco but this model is widely available and prices do tend to be around the £20.00 to £30.00 mark, if you can get it for the price I paid then it's definitely worth investing in as it is an all round excellent phone which does exactly what you would expect.
Five stars as a rating from me, thanks for reading my review. Read the complete review |

Panasonic KX-TG8523EB
by kristoph23
When buying a new phone for the home I spend hours looking around various websites for great deals and plenty of accessories included in anything I am looking at.
I found on Amazon a few months ago now a set of three telephones for the home designed by Panasonic and at first they were not my first option but they slowly won me ... over by some of the features and design of the phone.
Most people are aware about Panasonic being a big branded company and these phones definitely show that they have been made by a top manufacturer. In the set I obtained I get three phones and each are the same size which is 6 inches in height, 1.5 inches in width and 1 inch in depth.
They are much bigger then my previous phones I had and they weigh roughly the same which is 105 grams. The first thing you need to do is charge these phones which is simple and this is done by putting them into their charging booths and they takes about 6 hours to charge fully.
I have to admit my biggest pet hate is when I have family who pick up the phone and then leave it around the home and then the battery dies and your left wondering where the missing phone has gone and fortunately these phones have an excellent battery power lifeline.
I have left my phone for over 30 hours and still had battery power left on the device so this again is pretty good but it might be much higher than the number I have quoted above. There is a smashing screen with this phone with is 2 inches in size.
I love the fact it has some much vibrant colours for you to use and enjoy. Black and white images or text is rather boring on a phone so when you have an incoming call and the phone lights up with colour in the background that helps you appreciate how modern this phone is.
All the buttons are similar to most other phones and this is the call and end call buttons and loud speaker and various other commands you learn as you become more confident on the phone.
You can store up to 200 names on this device so far I have put in 54 and when I need to phone someone instead of rushing around trying to find the number I just scroll through the list of names and then select their name and it rings straight away.
One of the good parts for me is that with this phone you can programme a number and contact into any of the three phones and it sends that number to other two so it saves you typing them into every single phone. My previous phone I had for the home I had to do every number and contact individually on all four of the handsets which was annoying.
You have a good amount of answering machine time as well which is around 40 minutes. I have found this fantastic because recently I had to get some information to my family and I left a ten minute phone message which actually shocked me because some phones do not allow you to leave that length of a phone message.
There are a few various ringtones to choose from and unfortunately they are not the best they sound all alike and very similar to the ring tones you hear on other phones so that is nothing special and it is shame you cannot download some of your own versions of a ringtone which would increase the features further.
There are many languages to choose from on this phone and you have the time and date always displayed on the front as well and you told the duration of each incoming and outgoing calls you receive and make.
One of the few drawbacks is there is no texting on this phone which is something I was looking for but this phone is unable to do this and it does not display who is ringing you either.
I think the idea of knowing who is ringing you helps people out of many situations especially those annoying advertising calls you get from time to time. You can go outside and the phone still manages to stay connected unlike my previous phone.
Along with a few minor features being missing the phone can cost a small fortune with some prices ranging from £75-£130 which is a large difference for anyone to pay.
Reviews on this phone suggest it is an excellent phone which helped me choose for them but I find them very good for volume because you can hear this phone ring anywhere in a home providing you put each handset in a decent location.
I also think the amount of contacts you can store and the colour screen very helpful to anyone to have as well.
There is other features available I have never used and one is a conference call and another is setting an alarm which so far I have failed to master.
In my opinion this is a top phone choice for people to make and the price should be lower for what it is. There are some decent features which are missing and if added would make this a very desirable phone to have. Read the complete review |
