Tesco Value TH100 Slimline Gondola
by JJJJ Looking for an incredibly cheap phone that's also surprisingly functional? then the Tesco TH100 may be for you. This ultra-budget model retails at only £4.28, and it's available from most of the larger Tesco Extra stores and from the Tesco Direct website. As you would expect, a phone which costs just over four pounds is always going to ... be limited in terms of its features, but how does it perform? Design & Appearance - - - - - - - - - - - - - - White in colour, the TH100 is made from a sturdy white plastic and is shaped in the classic 'gondola' design. The base can be wall mounted if required, although it's just as functional when placed horizontally on a surface. The overall appearance isn't bad for the price, and overall it looks fairly professional. The handset is comfortable to hold, and easy to replace on the base without too much fiddling. In terms of the features, the phone offers very little in terms of gimmicks - there's the adjustable ringer volume, a mute button, and a last number redial facility - pretty much standard fare for every phone made in the last twenty years! The keypad feels quite rubbery, but the numbers are big enough to see, and the buttons are easy to press. Sound Quality & Final Word - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To be honest, I was surprised at the TH100's sound quality when I used it for the first time - the earpiece is very clear and quite loud, and i've never had any issues hearing what the person on the other end has said. The ringer is similarly easy to hear, and there's a high and low volume setting to play with. Overall, the Tesco TH100 Gondola phone is a impressive product for the price - it does all the basics and it does them well. There's no answer-phone or LCD screen, but as a secondary house phone you may not need such distractions anyway; recommended. Tesco Value TH100 Slimline Gondola
by emmad5689 Last year our cordless phones started playing up and they stopped ringing, at the time we couldn't afford to buy new phones straight away and so we decided to hook up a cheap phone so that we would be aware when the phone was ringing as this was initially the only problem. We bought this phone from Tesco and it cost us £3.64 ... although it has now gone up in price slightly to £3.88. The phone is a very simple white corded phone with grey rubber circular buttons on the underneath of the phone. On the base there is space to write a couple of phone numbers although I never bothered with it and the cord it long enough that you can comfortably make a call. The phone has a couple of basic functions but not alot but you can't expect much for the price, there is a last number redial, a small phone book memory, a mute function, adjustable ringing volume and can be mounted on the wall. The phone works perfectly well, the ring tone is basic and quite loud which is what we needed since our other phones wouldn't ring. I mounted this phone on the wall behind the curtain and mainly just used it for the sound but I did actually answer calls on it a couple of times and the sound was very good and clear. The phone may be basic but it was perfect for the job we needed it for and it is a perfectly adequate phone which at the price is fantastic value, we no longer use the phone as we upgraded once we had the money but I still have it put away upstairs and if we have a power cut it will be great as it doesn't require electricity like the majority of phones do these days. Tesco Value TH100 Slimline Gondola
by rji0907 A couple of months ago out of the blue our landline phone just died and although we tried to revive it, it stood firm and decided it wasn't going to play ball so we had to order a new phone. As money is a little tight, we ordered one from my partners catalogue so we didn't have to pay for it straight away but unfortunately the one we ... wanted wasn't in stock for a couple of weeks. I couldn't go without a phone for that long so I decided to find the cheapest, most basic landline phone I could to keep me going for the waiting period. The cheapest I could find was the Tesco Value TH100 Slimline Gondola phone. It made me smile when I first got it out the box and looked at it as it is the most basic phone I have seen for a long time, but provided it worked, I didn't really care! This phone was brought from Tesco's for the bargain price of £4.29 which to me is just ridiculous. I didn't think it would even be possible to manufacture a phone at that price, let alone retail it! Having said that, this is about as basic as you can get so you wouldn't expect to pay a fortune for it. The phone is generally white with black buttons. Unlike most phones nowadays this is still corded as most modern phones tend to be cordless. I wasn't sure how well I would get on with this as I tend to walk around a lot when talking on the phone but it was quite nice to just sit down and relax whilst on the phone. The cord is a decent length though so the phone can stretch further than you would first think if you have it on a phone table and the buttons are a decent size and easy to press so although I was only using this as a temporary phone, a phone like this would really suit an elderly relative as it is easy to hold and lightweight too. You get no functions on this phone whatsoever. You don't get different ringtones, caller display, a phonebook storage system or anything that we tend to take for granted on most phones nowadays, but although you get used to having these things, apart from caller id I found I didn't miss the other things as much as I thought I would. One thing that did surprise me about this phone was the quality of sound. I half expected to get a lot of crackling and muffled voices due to this being such a cheap, basic phone but the sound quality was excellent and the voices were really clear which I was very surprised at. It does have quite a cheap and cheerful look to it and it does look a little tacky to be honest but then for £4.00 what do you expect! The phone is a little flimsy feeling too so I don't think it would take much of a battering before it broke. I have now replaced this phone with our new better quality cordless phones as they have now arrived but I have re-boxed this one and put it in the loft to keep as a spare as it turned out to be a much better phone than I expected it to be. Yes, it doesn't do anything bar make and receive calls, but then that's all you actually NEED a telephone to do. What you WANT it to do is a different kettle of fish but if you are happy just to make telephone calls on a phone, then this phone is very good indeed for the price and I would happily recommend it to all.
