We got this phone years ago, and now don't have it. It was still working when we gt rid of it. Did we not like it then? Yes we did in a way, but there is more to it than that.
These came out quite a few years ago and if I remember came with quite a high price tag. I think when they first launched they cost around £80 - for a Telephone? yes, but this was no ordinary Telephone.
To look at it, it looked quite high Tech and a good gadget. We waited off quite a bit to get 1, and it was only on the offchance one time in Sainsbury's of al places. They had a stand with these on them and were selling them for £30 each. This was more like it, so we got one.
The first bag thing is that this isn't a Cordless. Thesedays Cordless Telephones are so much handier than being stuck in the 1 place trying to get off the phone while your Tea is burning. Pity it hadn't been designed with the base just how it is, and a Cordless Receiver.
The Telephone looks just like the Dooyoo picture. The unit is Silver and you will see that there is a little pull out Keyboard from under the unit. This is to type the e-mails. If you get any e-mails in then a red light will appear above the screen to let you know. It is easy enough to add an e-mail address to this. There is quite a large screen on this, and this normally displays a large Clock face when not in use. The screen seems to change between a light green colour and a more lilac colour. This change happens every so often, or changes when the phone is in use. The annoying thing I found about this is the amount of adverts that popped up on the screen. They were always about Loans, Insurances and all that, and it's bad enough getting these phonecalls about things like this, but having it pop up and catch your eye as well was annoying. I never did find a way to turn this off.
You can also set a personalised Ring Tone for certain numbers that phone in, there is a large address book which will flash up who's calling you if you have caller display set on your Phone Line, and there is the option to download Games to this. i'm not sure I would like to be hunched up over a phone playing a game. you can also Text from this phone as well.
So all sounds good, right? What's so wrong about it then? Well we just bought it to have a new nice looking gadget. It looked the part, but I think thesedays although it may still look hi-tech, with the screen not being in colour then you can tell this is a bit old. It would be handy for people who want to send e-mails but don't want a computer, but we never sent an e-mail from this. We just used it purely for telephoning.
The worst part of this is to follow. About a year after we had this we noticed some strange telephone charges on our bill. When we phoned BT to be honest they weren't very helpful and didn't look into the matter. These charges seemed to occur around 2-3am, the call lasted about 7 seconds, and always cost 20p. It was always the same phone number that was showing up on the phone. We typed the phone number in online and found that this was the Telephone "polling". It was checking for e-mail and connecting online to do this. Stuff this we though, and ended up taking the phone out. It done this everynight for a month therefore costing us about £6 for nothing. Ever since then our E-mailer phone has been up our attic. Perhaps thesedays there is a way to block this number but I don't know.
Nice enough Phone with lots of gadgets, but for that little "greedy" charge I would have to say stay away from this. unless you want to be paying out for nothing.
