Again I am writing a review based on products in my parents' house. This review is based on my Dads' favourite bit of technology in his house - the Amstrad E-Mailer Plus E-mail Telephone. I bought this phone for my Dad a couple of years ago for his Christmas. To be honest I didn't know how he would get on with it as he doesn't really ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on Amstrad E-Mailer Plus E-mail Telephone
by Graham Bird - written on 05/04/08

Intriguing little device, phone and answerphone are fine, address book is good but email is limited to text messages (no attachments). Doesn't cost 20p per email as some critics would have you believe, but 20p per call to server (send/receive as many messages as you like.) Internet access is pretty limited - monochrome display and can only handle simple websites - complex sites are displayed in segments and there's no interactive facility so can't be used for flight bookings, bank accounts etc. Fax facility is outward only (not much use these days anyway). Probably best for oldies who don't have a computer but want to send whingeing letters to newspapers and correspond with equally ancient relatives in New Zealand.

This is a fantastic product. I have had one at home for 3 years and have just bid on ebay for another one for my office. I love the fact my voicemail messages remain until I delete, or a message tells me memory running low. Very useful for saving important messages for longer periods of time. I can also see, at the press of a button, (with caller ...  Read the complete review

What a rip off, The charges for this phone are around 20pence per day even if it is not used, it dials out at premium rate for emails. I kept mine connected for one week, the adverts and costly emails are a waste of money. The only thing going for this phone is the address book.If anybody wants mine they can have it free,DO NOT BE FOOLED ...  Read the complete review

This is a complete con, the phone works OK, however as soon as you get it, it dials up and you have to register, and a credit card, this phone dials up every night at a cost of 16p +vat also companies phone you up to sell you phone, holidays and lots more, these thinks should be band and made against the law, they are just a way for companies to ...  Read the complete review

We purchased this e-mailer for £21.00 mainly for the use of the answer phone to go with our already purchased DECT phones. As a main product to access the internet it would be very expensive - and to send an SMS is way overpriced, but the other functions it has are very useful - such as the address book, rather that having to start the ...  Read the complete review

I bought a e-mailer plus a few days ago in the hope for a cheap to run handset as promised on the packaging, but only to find that it was one of the biggest cons i ever seen. it promises local rate call charges on the internet but when u connect it is actually is 5p per minute wich works out at £1.00 per 20 mins or £3.00 per hour of surfing which ...  Read the complete review
