Advantages: Ideal for anyone with sight, hearing or grip problems
Disadvantages: None at all.
As he gets older my dad finds it harder to use the phone and was dialling the wrong number more often than not. As he used to work for BT he gets offers sent to him and one of them was for the Big Button 100 and we decided to try it.
It is slightly bigger than the other phone we have but only by a couple of centimetres and it is no heavier. It is white so does get a bit grubby but a quick wipe over with a damp cloth or a wet wipe has it bright and clean again.
It has all the same features that other phones have including speed dial number memory, call indicator light - that helps as well as even though he won't admit it he is getting a bit deaf as well - and last number redial. There is also RNIB approved font on the keys and the numbers certainly do cover the keys. The number five also has a raised dot in the middle so this will be a good way for totally blind people to work out where the other numbers are.
As most of the people who are going to use this phone will be older, there is also a couple of hearing amplification devices meaning that both the ring tone can be increased in volume and the earpiece volume can be increased making it easier to hear the other person talking. To add to the help it gives to older people it there is also an easy grip handset.
When it arrived I thought it was a bit like a child's toy but I have got used to it and use it just as often as I use the other handsets we have. As it comes with a stand, we don't have to have it placed on a table, but run the cord around the settee and have it on the settee next to were my dad sits. So it not only makes it easy to see the numbers to dial, hear the ringtone, hear the conversation and is easy to hold but it also means that he does not have to get up as he was missing calls because he could not get to the phone in time.
We paid £19.99 for it - luckily the brochure came just before Fathers' Day so there was the ideal present for him - and it has been one of the best things and most useful things we have bought.
Summary: A good phone for people who find that they are struggling to use the standard phones provided by BT.
