Before my house moved onto cordless phones we tried and tested several corded phones, this being one of those. I think the main reason why was because it was given to us by someone a while back. This is a simple to work phone, once you've got the hang of it.
It's a fair size phone with fair size buttons, making it ideal for those with larger fingers. There's the usual number buttons plus a mute, volume, menu, address book and even a button to use the phone hands free. There's also a few buttons offering redial and menu controls.
The answering machine could handle up to 30 minutes of messages, and it also had a notification for my phone line answer phone, (1571), which meant that even after the 30 minutes was full I still had more space for more messages. Although I can't remember a time when the 30 minutes filled up.
The display is simple yet easy to read, giving you the number of messages, whether they are old or new, the time and date of the message, which can all be listened to by pressing the simple to understand hard buttons just below the screen.
The entire phone sits proudly on a back stand which shows off the slim make of the phone itself.
It has a built in phone book capable of storing up to 100 names and numbers. The ear piece is comfortable and crystal clear. And the hands free button is one of those buttons that is used when you're trying to contact a human on one of those 'funny' numbers.
This phone sells these days for about £25 - £30, and to be honest it is worth the £30 as if offers everything that a phone should offer. It is one of those phones that looks nice sat on a desk, or table and it does what it should do.
I recently had to purchase a new telephone from BT and after explaining to one of the company' salesmen what my requirements were. He highly recommended the 'BT Decor 2500' and after outling many points, it seemed perfect for my needs.
It arrived the next day well packaged together with instructions. My first impression was very neat, well defined numbers and clear screen. The address book was adequate and easily accessible.
This model was very similar to my last telephone I purchased from BT and I am extremely pleased to say that it is just as simple to operate. The answerphone is remarkably clear and the ring tone is perfectly pitched, and if you find it necessary, the ring tone can be made changed.
Like the majority of the general public I also have a mobile for convenience whilst out and about, but feel a landline is a great asset in your home for both pleasure and business. It is also very handy to have a telehone on the bedside table to take those in the middle of the night or early morning calls, as I think there is nothing worse that fumbling about looking for your mobile whereas feeling out for a large receiver is much simpler.
I would like to add that the 'BT' Decor 2500' is something that will satisfy your everyday basic requirements.
Finally, I am really grateful to the 'BT' salesman whose introduction was very beneficial to me and, hopefully, other people will feel the same.
The ID555 telephones are partof Philps "Layout" range and therefore we did a bit of research to make sure that they wouldn't endure from the age old issue of form over function. We were tired of old BT handsets which (despite having altered the rechargeable batteries) neglected to retain their charge for more than five minutes and occasionally failed to work completely - so needed a top quality phone that could last some time to us.
Although the buttons are level (forming the face of the telephone), they can be a reasonable size and they are not hard to see since they're backlit in blue. As buttons are pressed, the number dialled appears on the screen (black type against a blue background that is backlit).
The handsets are comfortable to hold and are relatively light. The batteries hold their charge well - definitely in a position to make two back-to-back huor calls that are long with ability to spare.
Various functions may be got from your handsets, for instance, answering machine, changing ring tones etc. There is a great feature the number of rings before the answering machine kicks in can be selected rather than the default option 6 rings we've had on previous machines.
Call quality is extremely good even in a distance in the base, although when moving from the base there is a momentary lapse in quality as the signal stregnth is increased - in an effort to reduce power consumption, the signal is only as strong as it should be.
Very easy to install - the base while the extra handset only desires power requires electricity and phone outlets.
The answering machine has lots of capacity for domestic use (we have had up to 8 or 7 messages kept following holidays).
The BT Decor 2500 is just an everyday phone with some nice additions you'll really like. The BT Decor 2500 has a nice design offering something for everyone. It's also nicely laid out so not only is it nice to look at but it's practical too. The phones been designed with large buttons with clear writing which means it's easy to use at any age. It also comes with a nice clear screen at the top displaying three clear lines which are contrast controlled which means it can become easier to read which is a nice if not unique feature that really adds to the value of the phone. The cord on this phone is average an means you can only go a certain distance with it but it should be suitable for most. The phone itself is also hearing aid compatible which means it could be extremely useful with older people. Coupling that capability with the large clear buttons and clear screen with it's unique contrast function means this is ideal for older people. The phone also comes with a hands-free speakerphone which is a nice little addition for any phone. The 100 name and number phonebook also gives you the capability to have all your family, friends and other important contacts stored on it. But if you miss a call from someone you have a 30 minute long, digital answering machine which seems to be an average for most landline phones.. All in all this phone is very good especially for older people offering a good solid build and some really nice features.
This phone set is very practical. If you do not want a cordless phone and you require something with a clear screen and large buttons then this is for you. I have found this very useful for me to have beside my bed. When I am tired I struggle to look at a mobile phone and I find them difficult to use so I've needed a reliable phone beside my bed for if i need to contact somebody.
This phone is not cordless which is perfect because I tend to misplace the handset otherwise or if I lose my mobile phone I always know where this one is so I can ring it to find it!
It is a chunky phone, it's about 20cm x 10cm so nice and solid. The buttons are large and it's just a case of pick up the receiver and dial a number and away you go. There is nothing complex about this so easy for me to work when I'm feeling tired. You can make it handsfree if you wish by simply pressing a button and the light will light up beneath it so you can see right away you're handsfree. This is useful although the people who I talk to say it's not very clear. It is easy to put on mute too.
This phone can be more complicated if you wish it to be. It has an electronic address book which can hold up to 100 names and it will also recall the last 30 numbers rang which is useful. I haven't ever added to the address book because it's quite fiddly with the numbers on the buttons doubling up as letters and I find that a bit too complex, if I need to ring someone I can easily just put their number in the phone direct from my paper address book but it is useful to have an electronic one should you need it.
It has an answer phone too which is easy to listen to. It holds about half an hour's worth of messages which is plenty. It does lose your messages though if you turn it off by the wall or if you have a powercut though which I found out by mistake so if you have important messages be careful to jot them down incase you do lose them.
The ring tone is nice and loud, you can alter the volume if you wish.
For me this is a very practical phone which is helpful for both myself and my husband when we don't want to use a mobile phone. The buttons are large enough for me and I'm glad I bought it. It is probably too chunky and old fashioned looking for the youngsters but for myself it is just fine.
I needed a few replacement phones for my office so went to Argos and purchased this phone. Many of our staff use headsets so I got this phone hoping it would work, and if it didn't I could swap other phones around as a cheap solution.
This is exactly what I ended up doing, the phone didn't work with our headsets so I had to swap an older phone that was compatible with our headsets (where the user wasn't using the headset) and swap that with the phone that wasn't working. It ended up being my phone that was swapped. Not ideal but it did solve a problem.
The phone cost £30 and for that you get a nice looking phone with big clear buttons that does its job.
After 3 weeks, the first phone broke so I had to take it back and get it replaced. I believe the speaker went on it as you couldn't hear the other person, it was really quiet. The new phone has been working well for the last few weeks. If I get any issues, I will update this review.
There are a few different ringtones, you can redial your last number called and there is a call log. I find the call log feature useful as I can keep track on who has called when I have been away from my desk. I can also have the phone on hands free but the speaker isn't very clear.
While the phone isn't bad, it would have been better if it was compatible with head sets. If you don't need a headset then this phone would be fine.
With its large keys and easy-to-read display screen the BT Decor 2500 White Corded Landline Phone with Answering Machine is a great choice for any home.
