Advantages: Handy with a short-range 'mobile' capacity

Disadvantages: The user guide. As usual.

The British Telecom new digital 'Freestyle' 610 'phone represents a latter generation that improves greatly on a previously analogued model. The new model has received a timely upgrade in terms of features, looks, and ease of use.

Like all new generation'phones, this one has a range of features that will have universal appeal including, for example, short-sighted users and people with disabilities who find using the 'phone difficult.

For example: the device has large press buttons and prominent LCD backlight for sight impaired users, and like most instruments nowadays employs a 'hands free' facility so you can get on with the ironing or whatever and still talk.

Other features include modern 30 name and caller internal directory, simple internal menu and 'caller waiting and call display' functions. If you like to have a diffent type of ringtone, there is the inbuilt facility to do this too as with most comparable products. You can also have up to 5 redial input functions if you want to use them.

If, like me, you like to wander around whilst talking on the 'phone, there is the range of use that extends to about 300 or so metres outdoors and 50 metres indoors, this being dependent on the wall and ceiling configuration of the building where the device is installed.

On the downside, the user guide is a veritable maze of instructions, many of which are a bit hard to unravel according to how easily you understand the language of technical authors, which can be a bit impenetrable at times. I think that 51 pages of instructions, which by no means is a record, says it all. You will find some useful price comparisons below.
