BT Mango has a good try at design
Member Name: davomrmac
Advantages: Looks smart, good call quality
Disadvantages: Bad battery cover design, charging dock could be better
I tried the BT Mango against my better judgement, after having a poor BT Calypso which had a very unresponsive keypad. Why did I let myself get drawn in by this handsets really nice styling?
Well, the BT Mango also comes in a aqua blue and white combo, but I went for the orange colour. I was pleasanly surprised when unwrapping it about just how cool this looks. The fact that it is a slider, means that it is really compact. The inverted display (white on black) makes for an interesting design too. The actual phone quality is pretty good, call quality is also top notch.
Where the Mango goes wrong though is on two points. The keypad is hidden and sometimes when you try and slide it up the battery cover comes off. With practice you learn where to hold it to avoid this, but it should not happen at all. The second point is docking the phone to charge. It makes a nice beep to let you know it is charging, but then when you walk passed it a little briskly, it beeps again. So the connection must be very sensitive. It is not unique to a faulty handset, I have two, so it must be a characteristic of the phone.
I paid £34.99 for this when Argos had them on offer. Problems aside, it is a nice phone. Clear display and good quality calls. Just a shame BT over-designed it a little.
Summary: This fruity offering from BT is pretty good for the price
