Philips CD1551B Handset.......
Member Name: MEL0611
Advantages: Easy to use, good range, clear speaker
Disadvantages: The base is a little small
Our telephone at home had been playing up for a while; we were going to get a replacement when my sister kindly offered us the model that I am going to be reviewing today. She was after a phone that had 2 handsets and so gave us this one to tie us over. The phone was the Philips CD1551B/05. We have always had the BT phones before but I had obviously heard of the Philips brand so was hoping it would last a while, especially as we were given this as a gift as opposed to having to make a purchase! Here are my thoughts on the product.
The phone as I mentioned was a gift and so we did not need to look into what worked best for us. The phone if you do wish to purchase it will cost you around the £40.00 mark. It is currently available on the Amazon website as well as being available in places like Argos and a couple of the electrical retailers. If we had had to buy this phone, I think that £40.00 is about the price I would be willing to pay knowing its capabilities and specifications. Whilst we may not use the phone all of the time as we both have mobile handsets in our house, we hoped that this would be long lasting and reliable.
The phone came with a 1 year manufacturer's guarantee as well as a detailed instruction booklet, whilst the guarantee didn't mean much to us, my sister had never had to take advantage of this as she had never had any problems with it. The instruction booklet was good as it allowed me to learn about how to put names and numbers in the memory and how to turn the volume up.
The actual handset was very comfy to hold and have by your ear. Lightweight and easy to grip, the main colour of the phone is black and the buttons felt quite easy to press. The base that the phone slots into is also black, my only criticism of this is that the base is quite small and it feels a little fiddly getting it to click into the charging unit. My sister told me that the phone came with batteries so you are ready to go as soon as the phone arrives. In the instructions you are recommended that the phone is charged for over 24 hours before it is used.
The phone has a range of 300m and in the house I found that the phone was very clear to speak into and hear from. There are small buttons on the side of the phone that allow you to adjust the ringing volume and the volume for when the phone is in use. When I take the phone into my garden, which does have a downwards slop, the conversation does go a little faded at times.
The ringing tones can be adjusted with ease and there is a setting for you to put the time on the front of the phone. There is also storage for names and numbers; the phone I must mention has a call time of up to 12 hours so this will last a long time without having to be put on charge again. The buttons make it easy to use and are easy to press so to use the phone is really easy and I was impressed with the quality.
There is a built in answer machine to the phone, this will hold up to 10 minutes of messages so I tend to delete my messages once I have listened to them to free up space on the phone,. The answer machine is easy to access and the buttons on the base are easy to navigate around.
In summary, I have been impressed with this handset and base and I am grateful to my sister for letting me have it, it is still going well now and I have no reason to change!
4 out of 5 from me
Thank you for reading
