MATTY'S VERDICT -------------------------------- --------------------- If it weren't for the green button problem, I'd wholeheartedly recommend the Philips Onis 2 Digital Cordless Telephone. But a phone is to make and receive calls - this is tricky when you can't answer the phone, or get a line in order to...more

Crowned Review Philips Onis Memo 6511: The Onis is on Me or the London Jinx (2430 words)
by - written on 04/08/05 (Very useful, 748 readings)
Rating:

Oh, my tales of woe continue. I am the jinx of South West London. I need only look at an electrical gadget, and it invariably stops working, works bizarrely or needs a repair or replacement of some description. My Philips Onis 2 Memo DECT phone is no exception. But yet again, I am getting ahead of myself. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The History ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Back in the dim and distant past of maybe twelve or more years ago, we acquired a Southwestern Bell cordless phone. This was before the days of DECT phones with ditzy little handsets. True to form, after a few years, the phone contracted some kind of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Good for a while.... (249 words)

Great phone when it works. When it was working it was very very good - but when it's batteries and charger decided to keel over and wave their little legs in the air I was not so impressed. I bought the base station and an additional handset - mainly because the messages can be accessed from the heandset and the fact that it had a speakerphone built in - a great feature that very few other phones seem to have. It was all working great until just before it went out of warranty when the batteries died on one of the phones and suprise suprise the batteries are not covered under warranty! So I decided to get some new ones for both phoes - I go them ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Philips Onis Memo 6511: My personalised secretary (187 words)

This cordless phone combines state of the art digital technology with a good, clear and concise answer phone. The unit itself is quite small and compact so people are always impressed when they use it. The difference between the new digital cordless phones and the old analougue type is immense, there is no or very little interference with these. Being my first answerphone I find now I never miss a call and since this phone incorporated 9 minutes of record time it has plenty memory for a full days calls. There is a choice of different ring tones for both the handset and the base unit which is extremely handy when you have left the handset in a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Philips Onis 2 Memo (308 words)
by - written on 02/12/02 (Useful, 839 readings)
Rating:

Initially we were pleased with our new Onis 6816 phones and 6511 base stations. We had an early problem with a 'hollow echo' which proved to be a fault with the BT master socket and an external bell. However as time progressed (months) we had problems mostly with the on/off button. On dismantling the phone this was caused by a damp residue build up between the rubber button sheet and the circuit board contacts (had this problem with old analogues as well). Cleaning with cotton buds solved the problem but this only recurred later. After several cleans the carbon on the back of the rubber sheet degrades and the button is rendered completely defunct, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Philips Onis Memo 6511: Don't buy it (166 words)

I would agree with the reviewer who said it was good when it worked. Ours has been nothing but trouble since it was out of warranty. Our particular problem is the button you press to pick up the call. It sticks so that you can't get the call, very frustrating. It isn't just us it's happened to. My sister's did the same thing and now my parents' is doing it. We took it back to the shop and they simply said they weren't economic to repair. Phillips were unhelpful and simply told us it was the batteries which it doesn't seem to be. My husband ended up having to get into it to clean it and each time it lasts less and less time ...  Read the complete review
