Advantages: Crystal clear speech quality, range of handset

Disadvantages: Basic operating system, fairly big

The Philips Xalio was first digital cordless phones on the market and with the promise of good speech quality, one was bought for the house.

The Philips Xalio may not be the prettiest of phones but it lives up to the promise of better speech quality, whenever I am on it no-one can tell the difference between it and a normal phone. I am very pleased with the phone because I have always wanted one but couldn't put up with the inferior quality that analogue cordless phones offer. The Xalio base is upstairs and the phone itself works in any room in the house without any interference. In fact, it also works out in the garden, even at the back. This is very handy when it's a nice day and you don't want to be stuck inside.

The operating system for the Xalio is very basic, there is room for ten numbers to be stored and the choice of three ringing tones. I don't think it matters very much because I don't carry the phone about with me like a mobile phone, I use the phone to talk to people and it does this well.

The phone has been fine since bought, however recently it stopped charging. This was due to a dead battery and so far I have been unable to find a battery to replace it.

Overall a good, though fairly basic cordless phone.
