Tesco Value TH100 Slimline Gondola
Advantages: Price, quality
***What is it?***
The Tesco Value TH100 Slimline Gondola Telephone is a very basic telephone which caters to the non bells and whistles end of the market. It's for use in a UK landline socket.
***Price and Availability***
As the name suggests, the Tesco Value TH100 Slimline Gondola Telephone is available exclusively at Tesco, both instore (in the larger stores, not Metro and Express) and online at Tesco Direct (you can collect from most chosen stores for free or pay a small postage and packing charge).
It's extremely low priced at only £3.98 (the price varies by a few pence here and there, I've seen it at £3.89 and £3.79 however £3.98 is what I paid just over six months ago.) It's amazing to think you can buy a telephone for less price than a pack of mince or a jar of coffee, back when my parents first got one, I wasn't allowed to touch it, it was so expensive!
As expected it is very plain looking, quite basic and simple, but I wouldn't say it particularly stands out as a cheap phone, I could easily believe this cost £9.99 or even £14.99. It's slimline, long, white with a white curly cord, all styled in a fairly durable plastic. The keys are a black rubber with white characters on them.
Overall I think the looks are quite nice especially for the money and it looks quite fitting in a hallway, kitchen, bathroom and so on.
It couldn't be simpler to use - almost 'plug and play', though full instructions are included in the box. Basically, I plugged it in, sat it down on the table, and was good to go (you can wall mount this phone, also). Using the phone is easy, the keys are soft to press, and the phone has excellent sound quality, I was surprised at how loud and clear the dial tone and the spoken word sound on this phone, I must admit I was expecting a bit of tinniness or distortion but there's none of it. I have it on good assurance too that the microphone is good quality and the recipient can hear me, too.
The ring tone is nice and high, you can hear the phone ringing from the far end of the garden and all over the house, which is not something I've been able to say about previous 'cheap' phones.
I have to say, I bought this phone when I purchased a new house, and had the new phone line installed whilst we were refurbishing it. I needed a cheap phone to put in the new house, expecting to buy a more expensive feature packed one when we'd moved and settled. I did end up buying a twin set of cordless phones, because I find them so useful being busy and having a small child, but I also kept this phone in, because sometimes the cordless phones run out of battery, have a tendency to go missing (especially if you have an inquisitive little toddler hiding them!) and because in an emergency you really do need the reassurance of a phone always being in one place and ready to use. I am so glad I bought it because I've used it numerous times and I've always been impressed by it. Six months on and it's still as good as new.
I can't recommend this enough, it's a great phone and the fact that it costs under £4 is absolutely amazing, it's worth every penny and easily twice as much! I don't know how they make them so cheap. OK, it's only available in white, and OK it's corded, and doesn't have any amazing features but if all you need is a phone and you're not bothered about that (or you want a second phone), then this is absolutely the phone for you.
I will happily give this 5 stars out of 5 and recommend it highly, it's by far one of the cheapest pieces of electronic hardware I've ever bought and strangely it's one of the best - I guess sometimes the less features something has, the less there is to go wrong! Overall, I can't fault it. Well done Tesco :)
Summary: For a basics phone this is outstanding
