Toshiba 40BL702B
by jlaker1992
Introduction:
For a while now I have been looking for a new television for my bedroom, I have a large wall infront of my bed and I have always wanted a large tele to fill the wall and give me something to look at when I am tucked up in bed. I went looking in all the high street stores and this tele seemed to be very common, I ... spotted it in argos, curries etc. when I got home I did a little more research into the tele and discovered it was cheapest at tesco. I went down to my local store to check it out and it was my lucky day, they were taking down ex display televisions and selling them off at cheap prices, I managed to grab a bargain and also recieved the best tele I believe I have ever owned. I will now go into more detail on this tele and explain why it is so good and worth getting!
Price:
Currently this costs £399 me argos and curries, yet tesco are selling it for £299. The ex display version I picked up was £240 which is very good. The price for this tele differs where ever you look. It is available on ebay and on amazon and I have noticed the price fluctuates heavily from day to day on this model. If you purchase from tesco you also recieve clubcard points which can come in handy for those day out trips or can go towards meal tokens from tesco rewards. I would definately shop around on this tele because you have a high chance of saving money on different websites, as it is not one of the brand new models out, it's available discounted in many places. Overall I am happy with the price I paid and would be more than happy to pay full price for This. It is worth £400 for definate.
Technical information:
This television is full HD 1080p which means it has a very clear image. It is 50hz which means it can keep up with fast moving tele programmes well. There are also four hdmi sockets which come in handy as I have my sky box plugged in aswell as a playstation and Apple TV! There are also two USB ports which are useful for charging phones and putting a memory stick in the tele to show your photos to people. This tele has an energy rating of "b" and this is by far not the worst you will see. The newer Toshiba models are all coming in as "a" rated, but this still is energy efficient and will not break the bank if used a lot. The television has 2 speakers which are stereo, there is also a headphone socket which can come in use occasionally. The tele has inbuilt free view which means there is no need to have an additional free view box attached to the tele, you can also view a 7 day TV guide which is useful when planning what to watch of a weekend or evening. All in all, the technical side to this television is appealing, plus add all those features to a full HD led tele you are surely on to a winner! The tele also comes with a stand which can be used to place the tele on tables etc, I never used the stand and out the tele straight up on the wall, the stand is good looking though and if you do not want to put yours on the wall this is excellently made and looks sturdy, yet not bulky and distasteful.
The looks:
The television is very slimline which is stylish and allows you to attach it to a wall bracket with ease! The screen looks great as there is only a vey small edge around the screen meaning all focus can be put onto the tele. When you view this from the side you can see how thin it is. It's a wonder how they make them so thin these days. This television looks stylish and is not bulky in any way shape or form. Just a good looking piece of tech. This is one of the reasons I was first attracted to this tele, Toshiba have worked hard to make a good looking tele which competes with the stylish LG's and Samsungs which seem to dominate the market at the moment. It's a very bold tele and looks stylish at all times, its a very modern looking television which suits my flat well as that was the style I was going for.
Any good?:
This tele has a stunning image and is great for watching films. When using the high definition programmes you can really see the difference and see why the tele is so good. I am also so impressed with the sound quality this can produce. For something so thin, the sound quality is out of this world. It will fill the room and leave you shocked and how good it sounds, it plays music well and listening the music channels is no issue at all. Watching sports on the tele is magnificent! It keeps up with play well, anything fast moving can be handled well and this is a bonus for me as I am a huge sports fan and my evenings mostly consist of watching sport on the tele. Overall I can't fault the tele, even the remote is stylish and easy to use. The instructions for the television are simple to follow and even beginners will not find it hard to cope with the instructions.
Overall:
I am nothing but impressed with this, I paid an excellent price, but as I said before, I would be more than happy to pay the full price as it is that good. It has all the bells and whistles I want and plenty of room for hdmi inputs etc. the actual quality of the image portrayed on the screen is incredible and very clear, it's bright and colourful and everything I want in a tele. It's very easy to put on a bracket, I have it on a swivel bracket and it looks great, it's a light tele and not too heavy to lift. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a large tele and one that is good quality and from a trusted brand. I have nothing bad to say about Toshiba as a brand and this tele really promotes the company well. In the past I have always steered clear of a Toshiba product as I did not know much about them and they are not advertised as widely as other companies are these days. The television has excellent features which all add up to make this a 5 star product, I can't recommend this highly enough. Toshiba have made a good one here, keep an eye out for it and as I said before, there are always cheaper places to buy teles than just the high street stores, have a look online and shop around, don't accept the first price you see for this product as there is money to be saved. Thanks for reading my review, I hope it has helped you out and informed you well on this model. Josh - jlaker1992 Read the complete review |

Sony KDL-32CX523
by thedomino
Back in 2011 I got a tax refund (a rarity I know!) and I decided to treat myself with a new tv. I didn't have the largest budget but wanted the best quality I could afford. The first choice was whether to go with a bigger tv, or go smaller with more features and in the end I opted for this Sony tv for £358 on amazon. For the price I ... could have got a 40 inch tv, but the smart tv aspect won the day for me.
Features
One of the great features on this tv is the inbuilt HD free view tuner that really let's you experience the quality that this tv has to offer. The pictures are crisp, with great depth and good tones. I've also used this tv for playing blu rays and xbox gaming and the HD really stands out.
Getting good sound from internal LCD tv speakers really is a challenge and is presented as a disadvantage of the product by other reviewers but this tv really does a good job and has a lot of options including a virtual surround sound that really works. Obviously this will never compare to external speakers but for a budget tv you can easily get by without extra speakers.
Other good features on the tv are the ability to plug in an external USB hard drive allowing you to record programmes and films directly to your hard drive to watch later. It's nowhere near as accomplished as a sky+ box etc, however it really is a unique feature for such a budget tv.
You have the ability to plug in a web cam and use Skype on the big screen.
You can even use your smartphone as a remote for the tv and most usefully to type when searching through the net or on love film for example.
A really novel feature is the 'track ID' button on the Sony remote that when pushed during live tv will do the same as 'shazam' and give you the artist and song title playing.
Another really great feature is the ability to play pictures/music and videos from DNLA enabled devices such as phones, PC's and tablets. Having the ability to flash your pictures up on the big screen from your phone when you have family or friends round is really fun.
For the energy conscious among us the tv boasts a presence sensor that recognises movement and will turn the screen off if you leave the room, instantly coming back on when you arrive back in the room. This really is a good feature.
Recently I decided to buy a Sony blu ray player, due to the fact that certain Sony products can use 'Bravia sync' allowing you to use the devices together on the same remote and access all the settings through the Bravia tv, something not normally possible when combining other brand players with your tv, due to them having separate setting menus.
Smart tv
This is the reason i bought this tv. If you haven't got a games console or tablet with the ability to play on demand tv this tv is definitely a winner. Using a wired connection or wireless (if you fork out for an expensive Sony wireless adapter) you can stream bbc iplayer, 4 on demand, 5 on demand, love film and lots of other video streaming sites. You can also use social media sites such as facebook and twitter, though I'm not sure if many would want to use that feature on the tv. Either way it's available to you.
Overall this Sony tv has a huge range of useful features and a great quality picture so I recommend it whole heartedly to those on a budget. You get great value for money. Read the complete review |
