I have been using this television for nearly 2 years now and I have nothing but good things to say about it. The picture quality is brilliant, and has a good contrast ratio, which is a very important factor which most people miss when buying a TV. It basically means that the blacks are very dark and the whites nice and ... bright.
For those people who don't know the difference between HD and HD Ready - HD Ready means that the TV is capable of dealing with High Definition, but it is not true, or full high definition. This means the TV will work with your Sky HD, PS3, XBOX 360 etc, but the resolution will be lower than that of a Full HDTV (720p as opposed to 1080p). Regardless, the image quality of this television is exceptional for its price range, and with 3 HDMI inputs it can handle all of the above being connected at once. This eliminates the endless wire-swapping that becomes inevitable with other televisions, some of which have just one HDMI input.
As for the menu, the TV has a very user friendly interface, is easily set up, and the freeview guide is easily navigated with a 'favourites' feature which is very handy for quickly browsing your favourite channels. I have however had problems getting signal on some channels, but it is difficult to assess whether this is a fault with the TV or my aerial signal.
I have hooked my TV up to external speakers which I would recommend to anyone for a better cinematic experience, however I must say that the sound quality is very good for a TV of this price range, even if it does lack bass (which is a given since you have no sub).
My one criticism of this TV is that (contrary to the claims of most websites including Samsung themselves), the TV does not have a swivel stand. I bought this expecting to be able to rotate the TV and watch it in bed but this turned out to be a pipe dream when I attached the stand only to find out it was stuck solidly in position. It is light enough to maneuver yourself but it is important for people to know that the TV does NOT swivel! You can buy a wall mount for a relatively low price though and they are standard fitting.
Apart from that, its a brilliant TV, great price and, lets face it, looks beautiful with its gloss black finish! Read the complete review |

Samsung LE-26R74BD

I have this TV in my bedroom and I absolutely love it. It is Samsung TV and the screen size is 26" which is quite a small sized TV for a main TV compared to today's sizes, but if you don't want a big one, or want it for as a smaller one as a second TV for a smaller room then then it's perfect.
It is HD ready with 720p, ... which isn't the highest HD available, which is 1080p, however most people will be more than happy with 720p, it depends on how many HD devices (e.g. blue ray / ps3) you have, and if you use it as a second TV it isn't as important. Also it only has 1 HDMI socket, which means you can only have one HD device connected to it at any one time.
It also comes with free view pre installed into it so you don't need to buy a box, and have extra wire around. The free view is easy to set up, once it is connected to an aerial, you can select the menu button, and then have the TV auto tune it to receive all the free view channels available. Depending on what kind on a connection you get in your area and how good your aerial is you may not get all the channels from free view, as I didn't, but this would be the same for any TV, as the one installed actually works well and looks good.
I has a TV guide feature where you can have a guide displayed on the TV screen with the list on channels going down vertically with the times and programme on at that time for that channel going across horizontally. You can just use the up/down and left/right buttons to scrolls through the different channels and times.
The picture quality is very good I found and you can adjust colour and contrast etc. from the main menu to suit you best. the screen is quite bright and I found it quite a bit bright ( at 500 cd/mē) than my main TV which is an LG, some people may not like this but I prefer it this way, and it can be changed, but the standard level is brighter. It has an LCD screen with a dynamic contrast ratio of 5000:1 and a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, producing a great picture quality.
The back of the TV is quite thin and doesn't take up much room, it is a bit to big to be hung up on the wall, as it would stick out a bit but as a standing TV it is more than good enough and stands well on the stand it is attached to, which can swerve to TV on it to position the screen at the best angle for your room.
The sound comes from two hidden speakers which are below the screen and has SRS TruSurround XT which gives more depth giving a greater sense of realism to the viewing experience. I found the audio over was good and is on par with other similar TVs and the volume can each a more than loud enough setting.
One problem I have with the TV is that when you turn it off from either the remote or the on / off button the the front of the TV, rather than going completely off it stays on standby, with a small red light on in the corner. The only way to turn it completely off is from the plug. I know a lot of TVs do this now but my old one wouldn't have any standby light on when turned off from the front, which I think would be better for the money and environmentally conscious people.
overall this is a great TV and can be brought at a reasonable price. The picture quality is very good, and you will struggle to find a better picture quality for the price. It is a good size and also has a good price. May not be big enough for most people as a main TV, but is still great. Read the complete review |

I bought this LCD TV for my bedroom a couple of months ago to replace my old set. Been for my bedroom, it didnt have to be big as I would only be using it occasionally. I have always trusted Samsung, and I have many other electrical items made by them.
I took the tv home and setup was quick and simple. I just plugged the ... tv in, and after just a couple of button presses the scan began for the channels. Most tvs now come with very simple installation programmes and this Samsung was no different. I sometimes use the tv for my games consoles, and the picture quality really brings the games alive, the sound quality is also very good, the built-in speakers do a very good job.
Unfortunately the tv doesnt allow the user to switch the power off entirely unless the plug is switched off. By leaving the television on stand-by when not in use is a poor feature This is a very reasonably priced television for Samsung, and should certainly be on any shortlist if you are looking for a tv of this size.I would definately recommend this tv for a spare room or for occassional use.
