My bargain buy last month was this sleek little number from Comet. I had come into a bit of a windfall ( well compensation for my accident - 3yrs ago!!) and decided to treat myself and family to a new TV. Our old faithful was really on the way out and I knew it wouldn t cope with the new switch over heading to our area soon. Toshiba 37XV635DB ... bought this TV to replace our non-HD old fashioned Bush model. We managed to find a bargain display model reduced for quick sale for £300 in an independant TV shop! We absolutely love it, everything about the TV is exacty what we need. The size is perfect, the swivel base is a fantastic feature, it is easy to use and was incredibly easy to set up. My lesser half also uses it with his Xbox and while he found it quite hard to find the right channel to get a HD picture from this, once he had worked it out he found it easy to use each time. Sony KDL-40Z4500 ... so can t comment on the quality of it as I have SkyHD which is what I am basing this review on. The quality of the standard definition channels is about as good as gets for an LCD, unfortunately, lower quality broadcasts are exaggerated by the size of the television and some slight artefacts can appear. This is to be expected on any LCD TV. Switch to an HD channel and this is where the magic happens, the picture is sharp, and almost breathtakingly good. Colours are vivid but natural and the tv offers many presets to play around with. Blacks are about as dark as they get on an LCD, still not as good as the best Plasma s however.
