Alba 22 Inch Freeview TV/DVD
Advantages: great picture
Disadvantages: DVD tray is cheap
My daughter loves watching DVD's, previously she was using an old TV/DVD combi of mine from when I lived at home which was on it's last legs. For Christmas my Nan offered to buy her a new TV. I looked around for a few weeks and decided on this particular model from Argos. Mainly because I liked the choice of colours. I was undecided what colour to get at first but eventually we decided on red as my daughter has red and pink Mammut furniture from Ikea.
The TV costs £139.99 however before Christmas we got it for £129.99 and also a £10 gift voucher to use in store. The TV comes in several colours the usual black and silver as well as blue, pink, purple, white and red so there is a colour to suit all rooms.
The TV is full 1080p HD and also has an LED screen.
When I picked the TV up I was suprised how light it was. It came in a box with a carry handle making it easy to transport to the car.
The set up of the TV was easy, you get a stand which we used as we were placing the TV on my daughter's chest of drawers. The stand pops on and then you need to screw it in using the four screws that come with it.
Once I had placed the stand on the TV I removed the little stickers and turned the TV on. You get a remote control the same colour as the TV which also comes with 2 AAA batteries.
For the technically minded people on here the spec of the TV as listed on the Argos website is:
Full HD 1080p display resolution.
Integrated Freeview digital tuner.
22in (56cm) widescreen TV.
Resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels.
Refresh rate 60Hz.
Contrast ratio 1000:1.
Viewing angle 170/160 degrees.
What I liked about the TV was that the surround was only small so it didn't look too bulky. The TV was also quite thin which means it would look okay on a wall too.
The TV has an HDMI socket and a scart socket we haven't used these as we only watch DVD's, the same with the freeview I haven't bothered but this is mainly because where I live on freeview half of the channels are missing unless you have a fantastic aerial and unfortunately in my daughter's room there is no socket to plug it into the main aerial.
The one thing I disliked about the TV was the opening of the DVD tray, it is done manually by pressing a button and it shoot out. Now it feels quite cheap and flimsy to me it. On the plus side however once you put the DVD in it starts automatically so there is no need to use the remote to change the input. I had also read that other people could hear the DVD turning thankfully I haven't noticed this.
I had read the reviews on the Argos website prior to purchasing this and a lot of them said that the sound quality wasn't great, however it was rated 4 out of 5 stars so this is what swayed me. The sound I think is okay, I think perhaps a lot of people are comparing it to TV's in their living rooms which are much more expensive. I didn't find it tinny like other people had described it and I was quite happy with it.
The best feature of this TV is the picture quality, it is very good. Every film I have tried on there has impressed me and I find that it is almost as good as my much more expensive Samsung TV.
There are several other features including a programme guide, now and next planner, a child lock and a sleep feature, again we haven't bothered with these as TV is not allowed before bedtime.
Another plus on this TV is that it is energy rating A which is important to me I always choose as energy efficient electrical good as I can afford in the hope of saving money on my electric bill.
Overall this is a very good TV, my daughter loves watching it, it fits in nicely with the theme in her bedroom and it is great value for the money. The only thing I would change would be the DVD tray as I think it's a little cheap other than that 4 out of 5 from me.
Summary: A great value TV/DVD
