The Hannspree 'New York' 19" LCD Widescreen Monitor is a fantastic monitor for it's price. The monitor is priced at the lower end of the market, but doesn't compromise one bit when it comes to the quality. I bought mine around 6 months ago for around £110, but can now be found under the £100 mark.
The monitor has an excellent picture, clear and bright, helped by it's 700:1 contrast ratio and the 5 millisecond refresh rate. It has a 16:10 widescreen aspest ratio, and a 150 degree viewing angle. I found the monitor settings very easy to navigate through, and I had the monitor up and running on it's optimal settings in no time. The monitor has built in speakers on either side, but I use 5.1 surround sound speakers for better audio quality.
Visually, the monitor is stunning. The monitor comes in a sleek, black designed with stylish chrome buttons on the control panel, and a brushed aluminium stand. The manufacturer describes the monitor as having an 'Industrial' design, and the chrome screwheads that are visible in each of the four corners does give it that feel. The monitor also has a high quality feel to it. It is a very sturdy piece of kit, and doesn't feel like a cheap monitor, as the price should suggest.
This monitor, in my opinion, has been a fantastic purchase. When I shopped around for a monitor, I never thought that I could get one of this quality for under £150, but the Hannspree 'New York' has certainly proved me wrong.
Great, bright picture. Attractive, unique design. Works great on my old 12" PowerBook as a Second monitor. A lot of quality for the money. There is a little bit of diagonal noise now and then, some kind of frequency hickup or something. The sound is great for Podcasts or Audiobooks, but little else. I wish it had an HDMI input, but overall it's pretty great for the money!
The Hannspree Xm Televisions adapt the style and function of commercial and industrial products in the same way urban pioneers use a commercial espresso maker or industrial light. The design uses controls that are familiar to photographers and differentiates itself from other monitors with its naked functionalism.
