I am not a great technical wiz, but I do enjoy using technology. The television I am about to review is the LG 42LG50 which I brought nearly four years ago as our main TV and has now been relegated to the bedroom for use as a computer monitor. When I brought the TV the hubby and I were looking or something with a nice big screen and that was full HD. We brought the TV from Currys for £799 so for us it was a rather large investment and now after four years solid use it is one I am still pleased with. The picture clarity is amazing; the colours are strong and bright. The contrast is sharp; there is no ghosting (shadowy outlines of images on the screen) this is thanks to the 50,000:1 contrast ratio (the ratio of the brightness of the white to the darkness of the black) the higher the contrast ratio the better the picture displayed. The picture is also greatly improved by the Intelligent Sensor that constantly alters the picture quality according to the brightness and colour of the surroundings, this technology reduces energy consumption by up to 62% and helps protect against eyestrain. I am not 100% sure how it works but believe me when I say the picture is perfect, we have never had any problems with it. The picture can be altered to your own taste using the usual contrast, brightness settings and then saved. The sound produced by the television is lovely and clear thanks to a little thing called clear voice technology, this works by altering the sound balance to emphasis voices over background noise. We have always enjoyed excellent sound from the TV, and the sound can be personalised using the onboard equalizer. One thing I must note is that the TV does not go very loud, but I think this is the same with most modern type TV's. The TV is a pleasure to look at, the frame is a glossy black and not at all imposing and surprisingly easy to keep clean. The front is uncluttered with only the presence of a very discreet silver on/off button. The depth of the TV is 3 inches at the most which makes it lovely and slim for wall mounting, we have always had it on the provided table top stand. The speakers on the TV are hidden and embedded in strategic spots around the TV, I can't tell you where as I can't find them, that's how well hidden they are. The setup of the TV is simplicity itself, once unboxed just plug all your bits and bobs in and then pop the power on, the TV will do a auto set up and find everything, once everything has been found you can then name your sky box, console etc to make it easier to find when switching inputs. All your devices are then linked via Simplink so when the TV is turned off it turns off all associated devices. As the TV is full HD (and up scales non HD formats) the picture clarity when watching Blu Rays or playing Xbox 360 is amazing. The TV comes with 3 HDMI, 2 Scart, 1 Component and an optical connection so there is more than enough for everything you could possibly want to connect. The manual for the TV is quite huge; to be honest I have never even opened it that is how easy this TV is to use. The remote is quite a big affair, but all the buttons are self explanatory and after the initial set up all you will do with the remote is turn the TV on/off and up/down and switch between inputs. If you can get hold of the TV second hand I do recommend it I have seen one or two on EBay selling for £150. I have had the television for nearly 4 years and it has never given me any trouble, the only reason we stopped using it as our main TV is that we switched to 3D technology (something we never use). Thankyou for reading XX
I bought this Television when i moved into my new home. I must admit i did have a look online and i was unsure about buying it. However i set it up and it is now my life. The picture quality of full HD is emense. This tv teamed up with Blu Ray is any boys dream. Iv also got a HD DVD surround sond but i prefer the Blu Ray. The picture quality makes you feel like you are actualy there in the film. I also have My PS3, DVD, PC, SKY,Wii and Xbox joined upto it and i can change between them in a single flick never loosing resolution. The Tv is good value for money and astheticly pleasing. The settings are also of good quality with the abilty to choose auto sensor which tells the tv to change the balance and display of the screen to compliment the light in the room. A superb buy i would recomend.
I will be eternally grateful to the Curry's Christmas sale for encouraging me to buy this beautiful piece of technology. If you're planning on getting ready for the digital switch over, then I would definitely recommend to do the switch over with LG. I once had a phone from LG which I thought was the worst thing I'd ever spent my money on, therefore was very skeptical about buying a TV from them, but to be honest this has proven me completely wrong. I cannot fault this television aside from the internal speakers, although they are good, when the TV is loud you can occasionally get a rattle and everything does sound better through a surround sound - though that is always the case! Bad point aside, everything else about this TV is perfect, the picture quality is incredible and the 1080 Full HD feature makes both movies and games ten times more enjoyable. If this isn't enough for the price you are paying, the TV has freeview built in and is one of the easiest TV's I have ever had to set up and navigate. The menus are very user friendly and not hard to understand even for a complete technophobe! The image of this TV is fantastic and a compliment to any room in a house. As usual with LG they have gone one step further than most companies to make their product a lot more stylish and although you're not paying over the odds for this, it looks as though you have. I would give this TV a 9/10, only knocking off one point down to the built in speakers, but it's probably harsh to fault this product based on such a small factor....so i'll give it 9.7/10!! Definately recommend this TV to anybody, especially with a 42" screen!
When it comes to versatility, few HDTV's Rival the LG5000. It has multiple sizes, customizable front accents, and screens that calibrate themselves. Concealed within the frame the LG5000, you'll find unique invisible Speaker system. The strategic positioning of the speakers creates an acoustic 'sweet spot' to completely surround you in deep, rich sound.
When it comes lo picture quality, LG believes that beauty is in the details. Full HD 1080p technology lets you see twice as many pixels as standard HD TVs. And twice the number of pixels means twice the resolution. Changing lighting conditions is a common problem when watching TV. Unique Intelligence Sensor Algorithm detects the level of light in a room and then calibrates to give you the best image possible.
