Advantages: Vibrant crisp colours, good contrast, sound quality is admirable
Disadvantages: Lacks somewhat in black levels
LG have recently been gathering pace in the tv market and after several lacklustre reviews, the brand really has improved it's quality. It is somewhat surprising that they ever struggled particularly in light of the fact that they are one of the biggest selling tv manufacturers.
So here we are onto this offering from LG which certainly promises good things, it has a nice neat design, plenty of inputs for cables boxes, ps3/xbox etc. It also comes with a digital freeview box but unfortunately in this area we can not pick up freeview and the digital switchover is not anticipated for another 3 years!. However this is a minor issue as for most I am sure there are no reception problems and there is always the alternative of a tv box.
Onto the television itself, in some aspects the television performs very well. We see the best from this television for instance when watching one of disneys animated films where the display allows for vibrant, crisp colours and good detail. Of course watching blu ray will allow you to get the best out of this television and take hull advantage of it's HD capabilities. The noise level is kept to a minimum and overall the picture is quite admirable. The sound as if I have mentioned before with any of these televisions particularly when used to an external speaker set up is quite flat, but against other tv's in this range, is respectable, delivering a clear fairly loud sound from the internal speakers.
Unfortunately this television set is left wanting when it comes to black levels, as they don't convey the kind of convincing depth as some of the panasonic's for instance and therefore gives the colour a slightly frey washy feel to it.
Therefore it is this one issue which remains the burning one when it comes to this television. It is an excellent price and you get the full splendour of full HD. However you do need to balance this out against it's black levels. Overall I think for the money this is an excellent bargain though and well worth investigating.
