Advantages: Great pictures, sharp & clean images, perfect colours.

Disadvantages: Light bleed

We purchased the TX-37LZD85 in 2008 after many nights of review-reading and soul-searching. On the whole, it's proved to be a good choice - nice crisp colours, inky blacks, sharp images, displays HD pictures gorgeously. The set itself looks sleek, with it's shiny black frame and base. The base has a nifty hidden swivel system - when you turn the TV on the swivel base, it looks as though the whole base is sliding on the cabinet surface. I guess it's not much of a feature, but I like it. I've heard that the sound on the inbuilt speakers is pretty good, but we've only ever used external speakers so I can't comment.

The one problem we've had is light bleed from the bottom-left corner of the screen - a problem common to LCD screens and not unique to this model. We had the set replaced twice, and after the third set proved to show the same fault were told that Panasonic had investigated our previous 2 returns & found that the light bleed was within normal operating limits. I find this enormously frustrating because manufacturers don't publish any guidelines around what constitutes "normal" - so it's impossible to determine whether the set you have has a fault that should be repaired, or just a shows a manufacturing variance. At any rate, we settled (somewhat unhappily) for putting up with the light bleed. It only significantly affects the display when the image is black or very dark (for example, a night scene), or when there are black bars at the bottom/sides of the screen. Then the bleed can show up quite clearly - the downside of a screen that displays black so well.

Light bleed aside, we've been very happy with this TV - even my fussy audio-visual fanatic husband likes it.

Summary: We like it. We like it a lot.
