Nice quality LCD TV, well priced

      ---- General ---
I bought my Philips 26” LCD a week ago whilst searching for a replacement for a smaller Sony one. There are so many to choose from these days with so many different manufacturers.
I was recommended a Philips by a person who was heavily involved in Sony TV division.
      ---- Build Quality ---
The TV is completely silver. I like this kind of clean look to a TV. You seem to get that precise and efficient look with it sitting on the TV stand, clean cut no nonsense type feeling.
On a whole the TV looks well built and well finished. When you get it you have to attach the stand yourself. This is easy to do and is done using a few screws to attach the base to the TV. I can however see a few people damaging the back of the TV whilst doing this but hey it is better than the £75 delivery and install charge.
Everything on the TV fits together very well and there are no uneven joins or paint marks. The Remote is of very high quality also.
      ---- Picture and Sound---
Picture quality is great on this TV. Resolution is easily as good as the other major brands. When you turn on the TV there is no real wait time for the picture. I have mine integrated with a digital box. This setup is also quick and responsive and there is no awkward switching to be done on the TV setup to get the digital to work each time. There are a great range of sound features on this TV, including Dolby and a rather natty synthesizer setup. The speakers on this TV are very good. You don’t need any external ones for normal viewing as the sound is near perfect. You can leave this on automatic and it selects it depending upon what you decide to watch. The same applies to the picture setup thus making the TV very user friendly.
      ---- Menus ---
The TV operation can easily be changed when using the highly understandable menus. So many TV’s these days are over complicated in the setup area. It is nice to get a TV that you can play with whilst understanding what it is you are playing with in the first place.
      ---- Extras ---
This TV does not come with a whole load of those strange picture in picture things but then who really use those. There are a wide range of Scart sockets on the back along with S-Video etc to make your life easy for all those attachments. Connecting up a DVD and Digi box is easy. Unlike a previous Sony unit I had, on this one you just connect them and they work.
      ---- Summary ---
This is a good all round LCD television. If you are like me and like a reasonably sized TV without going over board then this may be for you. The 26” viewable screen is more than ample without making your room look like a cinema. You get the overwhelming impression here that your money has actually bought a quality product.
